During development, the oxygen‐sensitive transcription factor Zeb2 restrains astrocyte proliferation and maturation to ensure balanced retinal angiogenesis. In disease, it promotes the neurotoxic A1 astrocyte phenotype and inflammation, thereby promoting reparative revascularization over pathological neovascularization.

Ocular Manifestations of Metabolic Syndrome: A Systemic Vascular Phenotype
ABSTRACT Context Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is defined by central obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension and dyslipidemia. MetS affects over one‐third of US adults. Beyond its cardiovascular burden, MetS has clinically relevant associations with ocular health and may contribute to a systemic vascular and neuro‐metabolic phenotype involving the retina,

Limbal cystotomy by fine needle aspiration of a translucent iris cyst in a horse
Summary A 4‐year‐old Cremello crossbred mare was referred to the Equine Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Utrecht University for a translucent iris cyst from the dorsal pupillary margin corpora nigra in the right eye. Although noninvasive diode laser treatment is the preferred method of pigmented cyst ablation, two attempts did not result in disruption ...

Ocular Manifestations of Infectious Salmon Anaemia Virus Infection in Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar)
ABSTRACT Eyes are essential sensory organs needed by teleost Atlantic salmon for high visual acuity and survival in both the wild and in aquaculture settings. In this work, we assessed the ocular manifestations of Infectious Salmon Anaemia Virus (ISAV) infection in Atlantic salmon by a cohabitation‐mediated infection assay and histological and ...

Interventional human ocular safety experiments for 222‐nm far‐ultraviolet‐C lamp irradiation
To directly assess the ocular safety of 222‐nm far‐ultraviolet‐C (UVC) irradiation in humans, five subjects were exposed to 222‐nm UVC at doses of 22, 50, and 75 mJ/cm2. The findings indicate that far‐UVC irradiation does not cause “clinically significant photokeratitis” or long‐term ocular damage, though it may induce temporary discomfort.

Depth of DNA photodamage in human corneas exposed to 222 nm or 254 nm UV
Representative confocal 3D image of a section of a human cornea showing nuclei in blue (Hoechst 33342) and green, which was assigned to cells exhibiting Alexa555 conjugated to anti‐CPD antibody. The depth of photodamage was measured in Z‐stacks of the human corneal epithelium after exposure of the anterior surface to 50 or 100 mJ/cm2 at 222 or 254 nm ...
