Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Comparison of Endothelium-Related Responses to Nucleotides of Dog and Monkey Cerebral Arteries

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2010
We compared mechanical responses to uridine-5′triphosphate (UTP) and 2-(methylthio)adenosine-5′diphosphate (2MeSADP) of cerebral arteries isolated from dogs and monkeys. In the dog, UTP induced endothelium-independent contraction, whereas 2MeSADP induced

YAP1::TFE3 mediates endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal plasticity in epithelioid hemangioendothelioma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The YAP1::TFE3 fusion protein drives endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EndMT) plasticity, resulting in the loss of endothelial characteristics and gain of mesenchymal‐like properties, including resistance to anoikis, increased migratory capacity, and loss of contact growth inhibition in endothelial cells.

Innate Immune Cells in the Adipose Tissue in Health and Metabolic Disease

open access: yesJournal of Innate Immunity, 2021
Metabolic disorders, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, are characterized by chronic low-grade tissue and systemic inflammation.

Arteriogenesis versus angiogenesis: similarities and differences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Cardiovascular diseases account for more than half of total mortality before the age of 75 in industrialized countries. To develop therapies promoting the compensatory growth of blood vessels could be superior to palliative surgical surgical ...

Emerging role of ARHGAP29 in melanoma cell phenotype switching

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study gives first insights into the role of ARHGAP29 in malignant melanoma. ARHGAP29 was revealed to be connected to tumor cell plasticity, promoting a mesenchymal‐like, invasive phenotype and driving tumor progression. Further, it modulates cell spreading by influencing RhoA/ROCK signaling and affects SMAD2 activity. Rho GTPase‐activating protein

The corneal endothelium [PDF]

open access: yesEye, 1990
The endothelium is a monolayer of cells on the posterior corneal surface that transports water from the stroma into the anterior chamber. This movement of water counters a natural tendency for the stroma to swell and is necessary to maintain a transparent cornea.

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Proteomic profiling links complement activation to thrombosis in JAK2V617F myeloproliferative neoplasms

open access: yesTranslational Oncology
Background: Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are associated with a high risk of thrombotic complications, particularly splanchnic vein thrombosis (SVT).

Aging-Shifted Prostaglandin Profile in Endothelium as a Factor in Cardiovascular Disorders

open access: yesJournal of Aging Research, 2012
Age-associated endothelium dysfunction is a major risk factor for the development of cardiovascular diseases. Endothelium-synthesized prostaglandins and thromboxane are local hormones, which mediate vasodilation and vasoconstriction and critically ...
