Energy absorption of structures and materials

2003
The prediction of damage to structures caused by accidental collision – whether to automobiles, offshore installations or simply the packaging around an electrical appliance – is a crucial factor in their design. This important new study focuses on the way in which structures and materials can be designed to absorb kinetic energy in a controllable and ...

Study on the solar energy absorption of hybrid solar cells with trapezoid-pyramidal structure based PEDOT:PSS/c-Ge

, 2020
In this paper, we have utilized finite difference time domain (FDTD) method to investigate the solar energy absorption of hybrid solar cells (HSCs) with trapezoid-pyramidal structure (TPs) based PEDOT:PSS/c-Ge.

Energy absorption in composite stiffeners

Composites, 1995
Abstract The energy absorption behaviour of composite stiffeners subjected to axial compression has been investigated. A semi-empirical analysis methodology has been developed for prediction of the energy absorption capability of composite stiffeners based on crush tests of flat plate specimens and an understanding of the fundamentals of the energy ...

ENERGY ABSORPTION DEVICE

2003
An energy absorption device, in particular for the absorption and dissipation of forces in bridge constructions, comprising a housing (1) with at least one hydraulic fluid chamber (5, 6) filled with a magnetorheological hydraulic fluid. The hydraulic fluid chamber (5, 6) comprises a supported moving hydraulic piston (3).

Energy Absorption in Gold Nanoshells

Journal of Nano Research, 2013
A modeling study on energy absorption and transport in an isolated nanoshell and aggregates of nanoshells under localized surface plasma resonance (SPR) conditions is presented. A comprehensive model for multi-scattering of electromagnetic waves by a cluster of multilayered nanoshells is developed, which applies the Wigner-Eckart theorem for the ...

Multiple Impact Based Energy Absorption

Volume 4: 7th International Conference on Multibody Systems, Nonlinear Dynamics, and Control, Parts A, B and C, 2009
In this paper, we numerically solve the elastic multiple impact problem in a linear chain of balls using the impulse-momentum and the Hertz contact theory based methods. The first method depends on a parameter called the impulse correlation ratio (ICR), while the latter one depends on the material properties and geometries of the colliding bodies.

Landau Damping and Resonant Energy Absorption

Physical Review, 1962
A physical interpretation of the Landau damping is given based on the Vlasov equations. It is shown that Landau's discussion and Kidal's calculation of resonant energy absorption are equivalent. It is also found possible to compare the analysis based on the Vlasov equations to Dawson's intuitive formulation.

Energy Transfer and Energy Absorption in Photon Interactions with Matter

2009
This chapter presents a discussion of the important mechanisms involved in energy transfer and energy absorption in an absorber irradiated with an external photon beam. The difference between energy transferred to charged particles in absorber and energy ultimately absorbed in the absorber is attributed to energy radiated from these charged particles ...
