Clustering of energy balance-related behaviors and parental education in European children : the ENERGY-project [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background:Recent research and literature reviews show that, among schoolchildren, some specific energy balance-related behaviors (EBRBs) are relevant for overweight and obesity prevention.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Disappearance of Transverse Flow in Central Collisions for Heavier Nuclei

open access: yes, 2003
For the first time, mass dependence of balance energy only for heavier systems has been studied. Our results are in excellent agreement with the data which allow us to predict the balance energy of U+U, for the first time, around 37-39 MeV/nucleon.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Study of Fire Plume Behavior and Maximum Ceiling Temperature Rise in a Curved Tunnel Driven by the Coupling of Blockage Effect and Longitudinal Ventilation

open access: yesFire
Tunnel fires often lead to vehicles being trapped inside, causing the “blocking effect”. In this work, fire plume behavior and the maximum ceiling temperature rise in a curved tunnel with blocked vehicles under longitudinal ventilation conditions are ...

Energy balance of different organic biogas farming systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The ecological impact of biogas plants depends on their integration into a given farming system. Therefore only farm-specific and no general statements are possible. In this paper, two different concepts of biogas production for an organic cash crop farm

Isospin effects on the mass dependence of balance energy

open access: yes, 2010
We study the effect of isospin degree of freedom on balance energy throughout the mass range between 50 and 350 for two sets of isotopic systems with N/Z = 1.16 and 1.33 as well as isobaric systems with N/Z = 1.0 and 1.4.
