Synthesis of hetero-bifunctional, end-capped oligo-EDOT derivatives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Conjugated oligomers of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) are attractive materials for tissue engineering applications, and as model systems for studying the properties of the widely used polymer PEDOT.

Comment on the Bekenstein bound

open access: yes, 2018
We propose a rigorous derivation of the Bekenstein upper limit for the entropy/information that can be contained by a physical system in a given finite region of space with given finite energy. The starting point is the observation that the derivation of

Intramolecular (Electron) Delocalization Between Aromatic Donors and their Tethered Cation–Radicals. Application of Electrochemical and Structural Probes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
To study the mechanism of electronic transduction along (poly)phenylene chains, a series of aromatic donors with general formula D–B–D has been synthesized [where D = 2,5-dimethoxy-4-methylphenyl donor and B = (poly)phenylene bridge]; and the ...

Half-BPS quotients in M-theory: ADE with a twist [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We classify Freund-Rubin backgrounds of eleven-dimensional supergravity of the form AdS_4 x X^7 which are at least half BPS; equivalently, smooth quotients of the round 7-sphere by finite subgroups of SO(8) which admit an (N>3)-dimensional subspace of ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

The complete one-loop dilatation operator of planar real beta-deformed N=4 SYM theory

open access: yes, 2015
We determine the missing finite-size corrections to the asymptotic one-loop dilatation operator of the real $\beta$-deformed $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM theory for the gauge groups $U(N)$ and $SU(N)$ in the 't Hooft limit. In the $SU(N)$ case, the absence of the

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

The chiral effective pion-nucleon Lagrangian of order p^4

open access: yes, 2000
We construct the minimal effective chiral pion-nucleon SU(2) Lagrangian at fourth order in the chiral expansion. The Lagrangian contains 118 in principle measurable terms.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...
