Earthquake: Magnitudes, Energy, and Moment
2015Corner frequency The frequency fc at which the curve that represents the Fourier amplitude spectrum of a signal abruptly changes its slope (see Fig. 4). For earthquakes, this frequency is related to the seismic source properties such as fault size, stress drop in the source volume, rupture velocity, and related rupture duration.

A magnitude-energy relation for large earthquakes
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 1969Abstract A relation between the magnitude of a shallow earthquake and the rupture parameters is derived by using a result of dislocation theory and assumptions as suggested from model studies: the average of the pre- and post-shock stresses on a fault and the seismic efficiency are approximately constant.

Energy-based VAD with grey magnitude spectral subtraction
Speech Communication, 2009In this paper, we propose a novel voice activity detection (VAD) scheme for low SNR conditions with additive white noise. The proposed approach consists of two parts. First, a grey magnitude spectral subtraction (GMSS) is applied to remove additive noise from a given noisy speech. By this doing, an estimated clean speech is obtained.

Energy and Magnitude: A Historical Perspective
Pure and Applied Geophysics, 2018We present a detailed historical review of early attempts to quantify seismic sources through a measure of the energy radiated into seismic waves, in connection with the parallel development of the concept of magnitude. In particular, we explore the derivation of the widely quoted “Gutenberg–Richter energy–magnitude relationship” 1

On frequency magnitude and energy of significant Indian earthquakes
pure and applied geophysics, 1970Frequency, magnitude and energy of Indian earthquakes with magnitude greater than 5 has been studied. The Indian regions can be divided into three main seismically active regions, viz. 1. Delhi and Himalayan region, 2. Assam region and 3. Koyana region which includes southwest India.

The magnitude of the energy imbalance in obesity is generally underestimated
International Journal of Obesity, 2008As the efforts to defeat the obesity epidemic amplify around the world, it is important to understand the true magnitude of the energy imbalance associated with excess weight. The energy imbalance in a weight gain situation is the difference between the number of calories ingested and the total caloric expenditure on the same day.

The relation between magnitude and energy of earthquakes
Eos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1955Relations between magnitude and energy of earthquakes given earlier are briefly reviewed. A new relation is derived using energy computations based on complete integrations of the Rayleigh wave phase. Twenty‐seven shallow‐focus earthquakes in 1952–1953 covering the magnitude range 5.3–7.8 recorded by the Galitzin instruments at Kiruna have been used ...

Magnitude and energy of subterrane shocks in Upper Silesia

The influence of acoustic phonons on the magnitude of energy fluctuations in DNA
Ferroelectrics, 1980Abstract It is shown that acoustic phonons can play an important role in determining the magnitude of energy fluctuations along the DNA molecule. This reflects heterogeneity in DNA flexibility associated with different stacking energies that stabilize various combinations of nucleotide sequences in its structure.
