Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Modeling holographic dark energy with particle and future horizons

open access: yes, 2020
In this work we explore some cosmological properties coming from the particle and future horizons when are considered as candidates to model the dark energy sector within a holographic context in a flat Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker universe; we ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Computational strategies for unraveling insights from known inhibitors for further lead optimization: A case study on Celecoxib analogues

open access: yesScientific Reports
Inhibition of Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) represents a well-established and promising strategy in the development of anti-inflammatory drugs, given its pivotal role in mediating inflammation. Selective inhibition of COX-2 over COX-1 is critical for reducing

Experimental assessment of the effects of water quality and PV panel orientation on green hydrogen production

open access: yesInternational Journal of Thermofluids
Efficient green hydrogen production using photovoltaic panels requires careful optimization of key parameters such as solar energy-related parameters, electrolysis parameters, system design and operational factors, and economic and environmental factors.

Accurate supercapacitor modeling for energy-harvesting wireless sensor nodes

open access: yes, 2011
Supercapacitors are often used in energy-harvesting wireless sensor nodes (EH-WSNs) to store harvested energy. Until now, research into the use of supercapacitors in EH-WSNs has considered them to be ideal or over-simplified, with non-ideal behavior ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Internal clock errors in synchrophasor ambient data: Effects, detection, and a posteriori estimation-based correction

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
Synchrophasor data from real world power systems are exposed to numerous adverse cyber-and-physical operating conditions that can negatively impact their fitness for use in PMU applications.
