Technical, economic, and environmental evaluation and optimization of wastewater, food, and energy usage - A case study of the veramin plain

open access: yesResults in Engineering
This study pioneers an integrated approach to resource management by addressing the critical interdependencies between the water, food, and energy sectors, with a focus on the use of treated wastewater in agriculture.

The Demand Side Management Potential to Balance a Highly Renewable European Power System

open access: yesEnergies, 2016
Shares of renewables continue to grow in the European power system. A fully renewable European power system will primarily depend on the renewable power sources of wind and photovoltaics (PV), which are not dispatchable but intermittent and therefore ...

To Represent Electric Vehicles in Electricity Systems Modelling—Aggregated Vehicle Representation vs. Individual Driving Profiles

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
This study describes, applies, and compares three different approaches to integrate electric vehicles (EVs) in a cost-minimising electricity system investment model and a dispatch model.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Energy system analysis, simulation and modelling practices in Turkey

open access: yes, 2020
Humankind first began to use simple machines instead of arm force. Subsequently, more advanced and sophisticated energy technologies introduced to our lives since the industrial revolution.

Impacts of Reclassified Brown Coal Reserves on the Energy System and Deep Decarbonisation Target in the Czech Republic

open access: yesEnergies, 2017
In 2015, a 24-year-long prohibition of coal mining within some territories in the North Bohemia coal basin was lifted and as a consequence mining a part of the brown coal reserves might well be resumed.

Modelling and model assessment of grid based Multi-Energy Systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Sustainable Energy Planning and Management, 2020
Two main strategies should be implemented to decarbonise the energy sector: substituting fossil fuels with renewable energies, and increasing system efficiency.

Economic Model-Predictive Control of Building Heating Systems Using Backbone Energy System Modelling Framework

open access: yesBuildings, 2023
Accessing the demand-side management potential of the residential heating sector requires sophisticated control capable of predicting buildings’ response to changes in heating and cooling power, e.g., model-predictive control.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
