Repulsive nature of optical potentials for high-energy heavy-ion scattering

open access: yes, 2010
The recent works by the present authors predicted that the real part of heavy-ion optical potentials changes its character from attraction to repulsion around the incident energy per nucleon E/A = 200 - 300 MeV on the basis of the complex G-matrix ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Prediction of fire danger index using a new machine learning based method to enhance power system resiliency against wildfires

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission & Distribution
Wildfires, which can cause significant damage to power systems, are mostly inevitable and unpredictable. Fire danger indexes, such as the Forest Fire Danger Index (FFDI) and the Canadian Fire Weather Index (FWI), measure the potential wildfire danger at ...

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Experimental analysis of a horizontal-axis wind turbine with swept blades using PIV data [PDF]

open access: yesWind Energy Science
This study presents findings from a wind tunnel experiment investigating a model wind turbine equipped with aft-swept blades. Utilising particle image velocimetry, velocity fields were measured at multiple radial stations.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Long-term scenarios and energy system impacts of technological carbon dioxide removal deployment in Finland

open access: yesEnvironmental Research: Energy
This study analyzed energy system impacts of technological carbon dioxide removal (CDR) deployment in Finland. We modeled long-term scenarios up to 2050 for four CDR technologies: bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), biochar soil amendment,

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Australian fire weather variability using calibrated long-term reanalysis data

open access: yesDiscover Environment
Spatiotemporal variability on multi-decadal time scales can be observed in weather conditions associated with wildfires. The climatic factors that drive this variability in fire weather conditions have been studied using bias-corrected 20th Century ...
