Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The advisability of using combustion chambers with a toroidal recirculation-mixing zone in small-sized gas turbine engines

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
The interrelations between the size of the gas turbine engine (GTE) and the size and workflow of the combustion chamber (CC) were considered. On the base of analysis of workflow organization the design of CC with toroidal recirculation mixing zone was ...

Analysis of Efficiency of Thermopressor Application for Internal Combustion Engine

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
Contact cooling using thermopressor technologies is a promising direction for the development of energy-efficient technologies. This technology is based on the implementation of the thermo-gas-dynamic compression effect in special contact heat exchangers

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Testing the Indicators of Diesel Vehicles Operating on Diesel Oil and Diesel Biofuel

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
The growth in the number of cars and the increasing demand for fuels require scientific work to develop alternative fuels. The energy crisis, which is becoming more and more evident, is not unimportant.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Multiple strategy enhanced hybrid algorithm BAGWO combining beetle antennae search and grey wolf optimizer for global optimization

open access: yesScientific Reports
This study proposes BAGWO, a novel hybrid optimization algorithm that integrates the Beetle Antennae Search algorithm (BAS) and the Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) to leverage their complementary strengths while enhancing their original strategies.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Simulation of Transient Temperature and Clearance after Shutdown of Aeroengine Based on CFD and FEA Coupled Models

open access: yesShock and Vibration
It is crucial to comprehend the heat soak phenomenon, which may result in a significant temperature increase after the shutdown followed by a gradual decrease. This could bring potential risks for the engine including oil coking.

Improvement of Stability of a High‑Loaded Axial Flow Compressor by a Combined Flow Control Method

open access: yesTransactions of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics
This study investigates a high‑loaded axial compressor in which flow instabilities in the rotor and the stator occur almost concurrently. Under these conditions, conventional stability enhancement methods prove to be ineffective.
