Nigerian English as a Lingua Franca
English World-Wide. A Journal of Varieties of English, 2022Abstract This paper investigates the use of Nigerian English in lingua-franca interaction in Germany, focussing on the perspective of the German listener. Fifty-eight German-speaking respondents were asked to transcribe short extracts from English interviews recorded with Nigerian immigrants and sojourners resident in Germany.

The Interpreter and Translator Trainer, 2013AbstractThis article explores the impact that English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) may have on translator and interpreter training. The paper first defines ELF and highlights major findings in this new research paradigm. Secondly, the relationship between ELF, multilingualism and translation is discussed in some detail.

ASSESSING ENGLISH AS A LINGUA FRANCA
Annual Review of Applied Linguistics, 2006This chapter proposes two alternative models for assessing English as a Lingua Franca (ELF). Tests based on the first model resemble existing approaches to assessing English as a foreign language offered by such tests as TOEFL, and IELTS. This model assumes that interlocutors use varieties of English based on Standard English.
