The complete mitochondrial genome of Engraulis ringens (Engraulidae, Clupeiformes) and phylogenetic studies of Engraulidae [PDF]
In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Engraulis ringens has been determined. The whole sequence is 16,690 bp in length and included the typical structure of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 2 non-coding regions ...

DNA Metabarcoding Reveals the Diet and Conservation Needs of the Chinese Crested Tern and Greater Crested Terns in Zhejiang Breeding Islands. [PDF]
This study employs DNA metabarcoding to analyze the diet composition of the critically endangered Chinese crested tern and the greater crested tern during their breeding season in Zhejiang. The terns primarily consume epipelagic schooling fish like anchovies and mackerel, with minimal overlap with commercial fisheries (< 5% commercial fish).

High-Throughput DNA Sequencing Reveals Gastric Content Composition and Inter-Specific Variation in <i>Pampus</i> Fishes. [PDF]
In this study, we employed high‐throughput sequencing of environmental DNA (eDNA) to conduct an analysis of the gastric contents composition and relative abundance from samples of P. argenteus and P. punctatissimus collected at the Jimiya Fish Pier in Qingdao, Shandong Province, and P. cinereus collected at the Qinglan Port in Wenchang, Hainan Province.

Elemental Homeostasis Deciphers the Multidimensional Stoichiometric Niche of Fish Communities in the Beibu Gulf. [PDF]
Significant interspecific variations were observed in the elemental composition among fish from different families in the Beibu dGulf, differentiated or overlapping multidimensional stoichiometric niches exist among taxa of different fish families.

Complete Mitochondrial Genome of the Araucanian Herring, <i>Strangomera bentincki</i>, Norman, 1936 (Teleostei: Clupeiformes: Clupeidae): Phylogenetic Analysis and Implications in Fishmeal Traceability. [PDF]
Araucanian herring (Strangomera bentincki) is a pelagic fish whose main processed products are fishmeal and oil. The complete mitogenome is 16,758 bp, consisting of 13 coding genes, two rRNAs, 22 tRNAs, and the control region. Phylogenetic analysis supported a monophyletic clade with Sprattus muelleri and Sprattus antipodum.

Multiple freshwater invasions of the tapertail anchovy (Clupeiformes: Engraulidae) of the Yangtze River [PDF]
Freshwater fish evolved from anadromous ancestors can be found in almost all continents. The roles of paleogeographic events and nature selection in speciation process often are under focus of research.

Geographic Patterns of Intra- and Interspecific Diversity of Riverine Fish Species in the Italian Northern Apennines and Ligurian Alps. [PDF]
We investigated the suitability of environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding to identify inter‐ and intraspecific diversity patterns of riverine fish populations across the Adriatic and Ligurian drainage basins in Northern Italy. Our results revealed genetic as well as community differentiations, with the Adriatic side displaying higher taxon richness ...
