Bridging the gap from ocean models to population dynamics of large marine predators: A model of mid-trophic functional groups [PDF]
The modeling of mid-trophic organisms of the pelagic ecosystem is a critical step in linking the coupled physical–biogeochemical models to population dynamics of large pelagic predators. Here, we provide an example of a modeling approach with definitions

We assessed differences in the development rates among anchoveta, E. ringens populations from the extremes of its range under different temperatures. Time to hatch decreased with increasing temperature but there was no difference in the temperature–development time relationship between eggs from different localities.

Nutritional Characteristics of a Peruvian Anchovy (Engraulis ringens) Protein Concentrate
The aim of the present study is to present a new anchovy protein concentrate and compare it to other similar fishery products. A 76.4% protein concentrate was prepared from fresh Peruvian anchoveta (Engraulis ringens) (APC) by means of acid treatment with 1% citric acid, solubilization with 1% sodium chloride, and isoelectric precipitation processes ...

ABSTRACT The northern Humboldt Current System (nHCS) has high environmental variability that impacts key demographic and community‐scale processes. Understanding the role and ecological implications of these interannual or long‐term events is crucial in describing the dynamics of the nHCS community. Using catch data from pelagic assessment surveys from

Acoustic observation of living organisms reveals the upper limit of the oxygen minimum zone. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Oxygen minimum zones (OMZs) are expanding in the World Ocean as a result of climate change and direct anthropogenic influence. OMZ expansion greatly affects biogeochemical processes and marine life, especially by constraining the vertical ...
