ENHANCED BIOLOGICAL PHOSPHORUS REMOVAL

Chemical Engineering Communications, 1998
Abstract Biological phosphorus removal is a promising alternative to the conventional chemical technologies for processing of phosphate raw materials. The object of this study was the effect of EDTA disodium on the biotreatment of tunisian phosphorite with the strain of Aspergillus niger.

Physiology of Microorganisms Enriched in Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal [PDF]

open access: possible, 2023
Since the isolation of bacteria in pure culture, investigations of microbial physiology have focussed on model microorganisms grown in pure culture. However, in order to understand complex environmental processes, there is a need to investigate mixed microbial communities.

Induction of phosphorus removal in an enhanced biological phosphorus removal bacterial population

Water Research, 1997
Abstract Volatile fatty acids (VFAs) resulting from prefermentation of influent glucose were used to cultivate a bacterial population capable of enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) in two identical anerobic/aerobic sequencing batch reactors (SBRs).

Polyphosphate-Accumulating Bacteria and Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal

1999
More than 50 years ago, Jeener and Brachet (1944) observed that addition of inorganic phosphate (Pi) to a suspension of yeast cells previously subjected to phosphate starvation induced massive accumulation of a basophilic substance within the cells. Soon afterwards this substance was isolated and identified as inorganic polyphosphate (polyP) (Schmidt ...

Study of Phosphorus Removal Efficiency in Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal Process

2013
An enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) system was developed in sequencing batch reactor (SBR) using acetate as the carbon source. The SBR was operated for over 2 months. Excellent phosphorus removal performance and stability were maintained in this system, where the phosphorous concentration in the effluent was below 0.6 mg/L.

THE ROLE OF GLUCOSE IN DEVELOPING ENHANCED BIOLOGICAL PHOSPHORUS REMOVAL

Proceedings of the Water Environment Federation, 2000
Sequential batch reactors were operated to study the mechanism of developing enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) while feeding glucose as the dominant substrate. Initial results indicated that feeding glucose as the dominant substrate caused poor and un-stable EBPR performance, similar to the findings reported by other researchers.

Enhanced biological phosphorus removal with different carbon sources

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2016
Enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) process is one of the most economical and sustainable methods for phosphorus removal from wastewater. However, the performance of EBPR can be affected by available carbon sources types in the wastewater that may induce different functional microbial communities in the process.

Phosphorus Removal in an Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal Process: Roles of Extracellular Polymeric Substances

Environmental Science & Technology, 2013
Phosphorus-accumulating organisms are considered to be the key microorganisms in the enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) process. A large amount of phosphorus is found in the extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) matrix of these microorganisms. However, the roles of EPS in phosphorus removal have not been fully understood.

Controlling Biosolids Phosphorus Content in Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal Reactors

Water Environment Research, 2003
A methodology to reduce the phosphorus content of biosolids produced by enhanced biological phosphorus removal treatment plants was studied. The process consists of mixing phosphate‐rich waste activated sludge (WAS) with either primary sludge or the supernatant from a primary‐sludge gravity thickener under anaerobic conditions to induce the release of ...

Enhanced biological phosphorus removal in wastewater

2021
