USE OF METHIONINE‐ENKEPHALIN SULFOXIDE AND LEUCINE‐ENKEPHALIN RADIO‐IMMUNOASSAYS FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF ENKEPHALINS IN THE RAT BRAIN

Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology, 1989
SUMMARY1. A radio‐immunoassay (RIA) for methionine‐enkephalin sulfoxide was developed and was used to measure methionine‐enkephalin, after oxidation, in the rat brain.2. The RIA was performed together with assays that use commercially available met‐and leu‐enkephalin antisera.3.

Potent tetrapeptide enkephalins

Life Sciences, 1981
Abstract Small peptides with opiate-like activity have generally had structures closely resembling that of the opioid pentapeptide enkephalin: Tyr-Gly-Gly-Phe-Met-COOH. Single deletions of any one of the amino acids has been demonstrated to reduce opiate activity drastically.

Enkephalins and nigrostriatal function

Neurology, 1978
Unilateral lesions of the substantia nigra were made with 6-hydroxydopamine in rats. In this model, drugs such as naloxone, which block endogenous enkephalin receptors, potentiated agents with postsynaptic dopaminergic actions, while antagonizing agents with presynaptic dopaminergic actions.

The enkephalins

Naturwissenschaften, 1978
Two penta-peptides with morphine-like properties have recently been found in the nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. These peptides known as enkephalins are unevenly distributed in the brain, the highest concentration being in the globus pallidus.

On the Origin of Leu-Enkephalin and Met-Enkephalin in the Rat Neurohypophysis

Endocrinology, 1985
The posterior lobe of the pituitary contains large amounts of Leu- and Met-enkephalin (LE and ME, respectively). A marked depletion of ME (81.9%) and LE (94.5%) in the posterior pituitary occurred after transection of the pituitary stalk. This indicates that most, if not all, of the enkephalins are in processes of central neurons. In the present study,

Met-enkephalin-arg6-gly7-leu8 exists together with met-enkephalin-arg6-phe7, met-enkephalin and leu-enkephalin in human stomach

Life Sciences, 1983
Studies on the nucleotide sequence of cloned DNA complementary to mRNA for preproenkephalin A from adrenal medulla and human pheochromocytoma have revealed that this precursor contains 4 copies of methionine-enkephalin(Met-Enk) and one copy each of leu-enkephalin (Leu-Enk), methionine-enkephalin-Arg6-Gly7-Leu8(Met-Enk-Arg6-Gly7-Leu8) and methionine ...

Enkephalin in the goldfish retina

Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology, 1986
Enkephalin-like immunoreactive amacrine cells were visualized using the highly sensitive avidin-biotin method. The somas of these cells were situated in the inner nuclear and ganglion cell layers. Enkephalin-stained processes were observed in layers 1, 3, and 5 of the inner plexiform layer.

Cerebral application of enkephalins

Experientia, 1977
Implantation of enkephalins A or B into the ventral thalamus or injection into the lateral ventricle of rats evoked only weak signs of stereotyped behavior, but did not cause gnawing.

Enkephalin-cell interactions

2000
Enkephalin analogs for multivalent ligand systems, bivalent enkephalins, multivalent enkephalins on polymers, multivalent ligands on vesicles, simultaneous activation of two different receptor systems, and cell interactions of enkephalin/polypeptide conjugates are described.
