Motivations, work-family enrichment and job satisfaction: An indirect effects model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Self Determination Theory (SDT) recognises that people may experience their motivations as either coming from within themselves (autonomous) or from outside of themselves (controlled).

Thirty years later: Enrichment practices for captive mammals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Environmental enrichment of captive mammals has been steadily evolving over the past thirty years. For this process to continue, it is first necessary to define current enrichment practices and then identify the factors that limit enhancing the quality ...

Theoretical understanding and technical practice of shale oil development in continental faulted basins in eastern China: A case study of Jiyang shale oil

open access: yesYouqi dizhi yu caishoulu
The shale oil in the continental faulted basins in eastern China, represented by Jiyang shale oil,has made a breakthrough in production capacity. However,Jiyang shale oil faces great challenges in achieving high and stable production due to the large ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Plant responses to long-term "in situ" CO₂ enrichment and soil warming at treeline in the Swiss Alps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In situ studies lasting several years are essential for predicting how plant growth and ecosystem function will change under rising levels of atmospheric CO₂ and the associated changes in climate. High-latitude and high-elevation ecosystems are predicted

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Discussion on the uniformity of shale oil and gas in China

open access: yesShiyou shiyan dizhi
Shale oil and gas are important strategic resources in China's energy sector, existing in shale formations with self-generation and self-storage characteristics.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
