ABSTRACT Background Childhood aplastic anemia (AA) is a rare disease, and both the disease itself and its treatment cause significant morbidity. We aimed to determine the contemporary incidence of childhood AA in Finland, to compare the clinical characteristics of AA against inherited bone marrow failure syndromes (IBMFS) and refractory cytopenia of ...

DOC, grazers, and resilience of phytoplankton to enrichment
Phytoplankton blooms often follow nutrient enrichment. Differences among lakes in light‐absorbing dissolved organic carbon (DOC) may shift bloom thresholds to higher nutrient loads and thereby increase resilience of lakes to enrichment.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

AllEnricher: a comprehensive gene set function enrichment tool for both model and non-model species
Background Function genomic studies will generally result in lists of genes that may provide clues for exploring biological questions and discovering unanticipated functions, based on differential gene expression analysis, differential epigenomic ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The Consequences of Work–Family Enrichment in Families on the Behaviour of Children
This study considers the spillover effect of work-family enrichment in parents on the behaviour of their children. Using a mediation model with parental well-being and parenting styles, the study unravels the associations between a positive perspective ...
