The Principles of Ensilage

Bracken ensilage

The Journal of Agricultural Science, 1944
Bracken cut in June was ensiled in various ways, and some of the products were examined for chemical composition, digestibility and palatability. The main findings were:1. Overheated silage was moderately palatable to sheep and cattle, but its digestibility was low and it approximated to wheat or barley straw in feeding value.2.

Energy changes during ensilage

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 1973
AbstractThe energy changes occurring during ensilage have been examined using a theoretical model with data calculated from known biochemical pathways. Results of a laboratory experiment in which five grasses were ensiled in triplicate confirm that energy is recoverable in an anaerobic system in spite of gaseous losses in the form of CO2. These changes

MAIZE ENSILAGE HARVESTER

Far Eastern Agrarian Herald, 2019
The article considers the patented design of a new forage harvester. Crawler forage harvester is a harvesting machine that performs a continuous technological process of mowing, crushing, loading or reloading operations. Their development was accompanied by intensive improvement of schemes, mechanisms that ensure reliable performance of machines, their

Ensilage of Cardboard and Date Palm Leaves

Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part A- Toxic/Hazardous Substances & Environmental Engineering, 2004
Eight treatments of cardboard (CB) and date palm leaves (DPL) with or without alkali treatments plus molasses, dates, and ammonium sulfate were ensiled in laboratory silos. Latobacillus plantarum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae inoculants were added at an application rate of 10(5) cfu/g of silage to study their possible influence on the fermentation ...

A model of clostridial dominance in ensilage

Grass and Forage Science, 1987
AbstractA simulation model of the growth and fermentation of lactic acid bacteria and clostridia in silage is described. The model is used to predict the occurrence of a well‐preserved lactate silage or a poorly‐preserved clostridial silage. Results of the model are compared with published experimental studies not used in the model's development.

Ensilage of pressed beet pulp

Sugar Industry, 2020
Ensiling pressed beet pulp in 100–500 t pits is common practice and enables stable long-term storage of the pulp when the silage is done according to the standard procedure recommended for this purpose. Storage of much bigger volumes of pressed pulp is more challenging with respect to a stable preservation.

Bioraffinering av ensilage [PDF]

open access: possible
