Nursing Clinics of North America, 1997
This article is intended to assist the nurse in caring for the patient who requires medical nutritional formulas, either as a complete diet or as a dietary supplement, to increase the nurse's knowledge of formula components, when and why different formulas are used, and when a change in formula may be indicated.

Selenium Content of Enteral Formulas
Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, 1986Selenium content of several complete enteral formulas and modular enteral components was determined by neutron activation analysis. Formulas based on egg albumin provided the highest content of selenium. Most of the remaining formulas had selenium contents that would provide an amount less than the proposed safe and adequate range of intake.

Newer components of enteral formulas
Pediatric Clinics of North America, 2002The past decade has seen a paradigm shift in the goals of nutritional care from basic delivery of macronutrient calories to the provision of specific nutrients, which, in addition to supporting growth, have health and disease modulating effects. The appreciation of the central role of nutrition in heath and disease may lead to increased use of a new ...

Enteral Nutrition: Frequency of Formula Modification
Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, 1981A retrospective study was undertaken to determine with what frequency one of the 12 standard enteral formulations routinely used by the Metabolic Support Service could not be used without modification. Forty‐three percent of the 83 patients studied required modification of one or more of the 5 individual components of the enteral product being utilized

Dilution factors for commercial enteral formulas
Journal of the American Dietetic Association, 1984Dietitians must evaluate the procedures used in their institutions for diluting commercial enteral formulas to ensure that the desired product strength is obtained. Development and implementation of a formula dilution chart (Table 2) save dietitians' or technicians' time and ensure accurate mathematical calculations.

Determinant Factors of the Viscosity of Enteral Formulas
Nutrition in Clinical Practice, 2012Background: Thickened enteral formula (TEF), which is made by adding thickener to enteral formula, has been used mainly in Japan to reduce the incidence of clinical complications associated with enteral nutrition. However, the optimal viscosity of TEF needed to achieve a high efficiency is different for each medical complication and for individual ...
