Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

Actividad in vitro comparativa de la tigeciclina contra microorganismos causantes de infección en pacientes hospitalizados en Colombia: estudio de evaluación y vigilancia de tigeciclina, TEST Comparative In Vitro activity of tygecycline against infection causing microrganisms among hospitalized patients in Colombia: Evaluation and surveillance study of Tygecycline - T.E.S.T

open access: yesInfectio, 2007
Introducción:la tigeciclina, el primer representante del grupo de las glicilciclinas, nueva clase de antibióticos, ha sido recientemente introducida en Colombia y no se disponen aún de datos en el país de su actividad in vitro.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Concordância dos resultados do sistema BD Phoenix com provas bioquímicas manuais na identificação de Enterobactérias em amostras clínicas

open access: yesClinical and Biomedical Research, 2015
Enterobactérias pertencem a um grupo grande e heterogêneo de bacilos Gram-negativos cujo habitat natural é o cólon de humanos e animais, sendo microrganismos amplamente distribuídos na natureza.
