Experimental pseudomembranous enterocolitis; production by means of thrombosis of intestinal mucosal capillaries.

A M A Archives of Internal Medicine, 1955
During the course of some animal experiments designed to elucidate the functional and pathologic effects of incompatible blood transfusion, it was observed that under certain experimental conditions the syndrome of pseudomembranous enterocolitis occurred.

Pseudomembranous enterocolitis: The Experimental induction of the disease with Staphylococcus aureus and its enterotoxin

, 1959
The objection to Staphylococcus var. aureus (Micrococcus pyogenes) as the etiologic agent of pseudomembranous enteritis stems from the observation that Staphylococcus has not been isolated in every case of the disease and from the assumption that the ...

[A lethal course in pseudomembranous enterocolitis during the parenteral administration of vancomycin and imipenem].

Deutsche Medizinische Wochenschrift, 2008
A 48-year-old woman required mechanical ventilation after aortic valve replacement for decompensated aortic valve stenosis when bleeding complications developed and rethoracotomy had to be performed. Acute renal failure necessitated haemodialysis. Septic

Postoperative pseudomembranous enterocolitis: successful treatment with corticotropin (ACTH).

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1954
Perhaps no other postoperative complication presents so serious and baffling a problem as pseudomembranous enterocolitis. The lack of experience with this infrequent disease makes diagnosis difficult, and the heretofore absence of known treatment makes ...

Pseudomembranous enterocolitis—A potentially lethal disease

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1990
The cases of nine children with pseudomembranous enterocolitis, five of whom died, are reported here. Six had prior antibiotic therapy, and in eight there were other diseases present that were considered to contribute to the development of this disease. Awareness of this condition, which requires aggressive medical and surgical management, is discussed.

Pseudomembranous enterocolitis

Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1981
Pseudomembranous enterocolitis (PMEC) was first documented in 1893. Since this initial description, confusion has reigned in the medical literature concerning its nature and differentiation from such entities as necrotizing enterocolitis and staphylococcal enterocolitis.

Toxic dilatation of the colon complicating pseudomembranous enterocolitis

The American Journal of Digestive Diseases, 1968
A case of toxic dilatation of the colon complicating antibiotic-induced pseudomembranous enterocolitis, believed to be the first to be reported, has been presented. This disease must be differentiated from toxic dilatation of the colon complicating ulcerative colitis, since treatment for the two conditions differs.

Pseudomembranous enterocolitis; are antibiotics wholly responsible.

, 1959
It is widely accepted that the syndrome of pseudomembranous enterocolitis is due to a Staphylococcus enteritis secondary to administration of wide-spectrum antibiotics.

The Roentgen Findings in Severe Pseudomembranous Enterocolitis

Radiology, 1960
Pseudomembranous enterocolitis has been a major clinical problem, particularly so since the recognition of increasing numbers of bacteria which are resistant to broad-spectrum antibiotics (2–6, 8, 11, 12, 15, 17. 20, 21, 25). Surgical interest in the problem (7–10, 16, 19, 21, 22, 24, 25) has led to much recent study, but the condition was reported in ...
