Proteinase inhibitors in Brazilian leguminosae

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1991
Serine proteinase inhitors, in the seeds of several Leguminosae from the Pantanal region (West Brazil), were studied using bovine trypsin, a digestive enzyme, Factor XIIa and human plasma Kallikrein, two blood clotting factors.

MorFunSeed: A Morphological and Functional Seed Database of Tree and Shrub Species Commonly Used for Direct Seeding in the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest Biomes of Brazil

open access: yesEcological Research, Volume 41, Issue 4, July 2026.
The MorFunSeed dataset compiles standardized seed morphology and functional traits for 131 tree and shrub species native to Brazil's Cerrado and Atlantic Forest biomes. It includes 26 variables and 3406 records, providing a consistent and comparable structure across species.

Home Range, Diet, and Activity Patterns of Common Marmosets (Callithrix jacchus) in Very Small and Isolated Fragments of the Atlantic Forest of Northeastern Brazil

open access: yesInternational Journal of Ecology, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
We evaluate the impact of very small and isolated forest fragments on the common marmosets home range, diet, and activity patterns, in the northeastern Atlantic Forest of Brazil. Three groups were studied in three forest fragments, from January to October 2010, totaling 360 hours of observations and 1,080 field‐hours.

Forest Responses to Fire Regime in the Humid Chaco of Paraguay

open access: yesApplied Vegetation Science, Volume 29, Issue 3, July/September 2026.
Fire regimes are increasingly shaping vegetation dynamics in the Humid Chaco of Paraguay, a poorly studied fire‐prone region. Our findings highlight resprouting as a key functional trait associated with fire disturbance. Although vegetation structure varied little among regimes, preserving forest patches may help maintain landscape heterogeneity and ...

Morphophysiological Behavior and Cambial Activity in Seedlings of Two Amazonian Tree Species under Shade

open access: yesJournal of Botany, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
Variations in light intensity can lead to important anatomical and morphophysiological changes in plants. Aiming to increase knowledge about the Amazonian tree species, this study examines the influence of shade on the cambial activity and development of Parkia gigantocarpa Ducke and Schizolobium parahyba var.

Hydrogel improves the initial growth and quality of Enterolobium contortisiliquum seedlings

open access: yesScientific Electronic Archives, 2019
In restoration in arid and semi-arid zones, the use of strategies to overcome water stress is fundamental to ensure the survival and establishment of seedlings.  The objective of this research is to evaluate the effect of hydrogel, associated to different irrigation frequencies, on initial growth, dry biomass allocation and seedling quality of E ...

Antibacterial, Antioxidant, and Anticholinesterase Activities of Plant Seed Extracts from Brazilian Semiarid Region

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
The antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anticholinesterase activities of ethanolic seed extracts of twenty‐one plant species from Brazilian semiarid region were investigated. The extracts were tested for antimicrobial activity against six bacteria strains and three yeasts.

Experimental poisoning by enterolobium contortisiliquum in sheep.

open access: yes, 2022
Ingestion of Enterolobium contortisiliquum pods causes digestive disturbances, secondary hepatogenous photosensitization and abortions in ruminants. Pods were administered to sheep via a ruminal cannula to characterize acute poisoning. In Experiment 1, a
