RNA interference against Enterovirus 71 infection

open access: yesVirology, 2005
Enterovirus 71 (EV71) is a highly infectious major causative agent of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) which could lead to severe neurological complications. There is currently no effective therapy against EV71. In this study, RNA interference (RNAi) is employed as a therapeutic approach for specific viral inhibition.

Epigenetic analyses suggest different pathways during pregnancy for development of Type 1 diabetes in children with high versus low‐neutral human leukocyte antigen‐risk

open access: yesJournal of Internal Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and objective The development of Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is shaped by genetic predisposition and epigenetic regulation. Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) risk alleles are major genetic determinants, but the epigenetic landscape in relation to disease onset remains unclear.

Routine Pediatric Enterovirus 71 Vaccination in China: a Cost-Effectiveness Analysis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: China accounted for 87% (9.8 million/11.3 million) of all hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) cases reported to WHO during 2010-2014. Enterovirus 71 (EV71) is responsible for most of the severe HFMD cases.

Sophocarpine against enterovirus 71 in vitro

open access: yesExperimental and Therapeutic Medicine, 2017
Sophocarpine (SCA) is a bioactive alkaloid present in Sophoraflavescens Ait. The present study demonstrated that SCA inhibited enterovirus 71 (EV71) infection in Vero cells. The results indicated that the 50% cytotoxicity concentration of SCA for Vero cells was 1,346 µg/ml, and the 50% inhibition concentration of SCA against EV71 was 350 µg/ml.

Pan-viral serology implicates enteroviruses in acute flaccid myelitis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Since 2012, the United States of America has experienced a biennial spike in pediatric acute flaccid myelitis (AFM)1-6. Epidemiologic evidence suggests non-polio enteroviruses (EVs) are a potential etiology, yet EV RNA is rarely detected in cerebrospinal

A Challenging Presentation of Mycoplasma pneumoniae: Mild Hepatic Dysfunction With Persistent Leukocytosis in a Pediatric Patient

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) is a common pediatric respiratory pathogen that can rarely present with extrapulmonary manifestations such as hepatic involvement. Recognition of hepatic dysfunction in this context is important for accurate diagnosis and timely therapy.
