Human enterovirus 71 strains in the background population and in hospital patients in Finland
Journal of Clinical Virology, 2013Human enterovirus 71 (HEV71) is a common cause of severe outbreaks of hand-foot- and mouth disease, aseptic meningitis and encephalitis in Asian populations but has not caused such epidemics in all populations. To analyze the frequency of HEV71 in the background childhood population in Finland by screening in stool and serum samples and by measuring ...

The complete genome of Enterovirus 71 China strain
Science in China Series C: Life Sciences, 2001Five overlapping clones covering the full genome of Enterovirus 71 China strain SHZH98 were obtained and then the sequences were determined by the chain termination method. It showed that the full length of EV71 SHZH98 genome (not including Poly A tail) is 7408 bp.

Strain-specific aggregation of enterovirus by dextran sulfate
Archives of Virology, 1981Dextran sulfate aggregates several enteroviruses depending not only on the pH, the ionic strength of the medium, but also on the protein content of the fluids and on strain specificities of the viruses. The aggregation effect was measured by filtration experiments, by sedimentation in the ultracentrifuge and by electron microscopy.

Genome analysis of enterovirus 71 strains differing in mouse pathogenicity
Virus Genes, 2016Enterovirus 71 (EV71) is a major causative agent of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) and is occasionally associated with severe neurological diseases. The investigation of virulence determinants of EV71 is rudimentary. Therefore, it is important to understand the relationship between EV71 virulence and genomic information.

Strains of Bovine Enterovirus sharing Antigen with Polio Virus-2
Nature, 1971CATTLE are known to carry a substance(s) in their sera which specifically neutralizes various strains of polio virus1. It has been thought that the production of this neutralizing substance might be due to infection of the cattle with some other virus sharing a common antigen with the polio virus. No such agent, however, has so far been discovered.

Selection and characterization of vaccine strain for Enterovirus 71 vaccine development
Vaccine, 2012Enterovirus 71 (EV71) has recently emerged as an important neurotropic virus in Asia because effective medications and prophylactic vaccine against EV71 infection are not available. Based on the success of inactivated poliovirus vaccine, the Vero cell-based chemically inactivated EV71 vaccine candidate could be developed. Identification of EV71 vaccine

Genomic characterization of an enterovirus 97 strain isolated in Shandong, China
Virus Genes, 2010The genomic characterization of human enterovirus 97 (EV97) strain isolated from an acute flaccid paralysis case in Shandong province, China in 1999, is described. The strain, designated as 99188/SD/CHN/1999/EV97 (abbreviated as 99188), had a genome of 7394 nucleotides.

A mouse muscle-adapted enterovirus 71 strain with increased virulence in mice
Microbes and Infection, 2011Enterovirus 71 (EV71) infections can usually cause epidemic hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD), and occasionally lead to aseptic meningitis, encephalitis, and polio-like illness. Skeletal muscles have been thought to be crucial for the pathogenesis of EV71-related diseases.

A New Candidate Type of Human Enterovirus (Drilon Strain) Isolated in the Philippines
Microbiology and Immunology, 1981AbstractA cytopathogenic agent was isolated in monkey kidney (MK) cell cultures from the stool specimen of a 3‐month‐old Filipina hospitalized with lower respiratory disease. The agent was designated the Drilon strain. It was characterized as an enterovirus on the basis of electron microscopic morphology, nucleic acid type (RNA), resistance to ether ...

Isolation and genomic characterization of three enterovirus 90 strains in Shandong, China
Archives of Virology, 2012Enterovirus 90 (EV90) is a newly identified serotype of the species Human enterovirus A, and few nucleotide sequences of EV90 are available. In this study, three EV90 strains were isolated from acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) cases in Shandong Province, China, in 2001 and 2003.
