Shaping Matter with Acoustic Waves: From Particles to Functional Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Acoustic‐directed assembly is reviewed as a materials‐oriented strategy for organizing particles, polymers, metals, and biological systems into functional structures. The review distinguishes reversible manipulation from permanent structure formation through medium fixation, particle fixation, and in situ material generation, highlighting routes toward

Entraining the Brain: Applications to Language Research and Links to Musical Entrainment

open access: yesEmpirical Musicology Review, 2012
Clayton’s paper provides a clear and accessible summary of the significance of entrainment for music making, and for human behaviour in general. He notes the central role of metrical structure in musical entrainment, the possible role of oscillatory ...

Entrainment and resonance in glycolysis [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1982
We have proposed a comprehensive model for the glycolytic reaction mechanism and have shown the possibility of self-tuning to resonance, with consequent increase in efficiency of energy transduction by separating the model into two subsystems: one for the phosphofructokinase (PFKase; ATP:D-fructose-6-phosphate 1-phosphotransferase, EC 2.7 ...

Effects of Resolution on the Simulation of Stratocumulus Entrainment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Three-dimensional large-eddy simulations of a smoke cloud beneath a strong inversion are used to investigate how grid resolution affects simulated entrainment rate.

Relative Humidity as an Indicator for Cloud Formation over Heterogeneous land surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The influence of land surface heterogeneity on potential cloud formation is investigated using relative humidity as an indicator. This is done by performing numerical experiments using a large-eddy simulation model (LES).

Synthesis of AgBiS2 and AgInS2 Based on Formation Energies in Sulfur‐Rich Reducing Flame

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
High‐surface‐area AgInS2 and AgBiS2 nanoparticles were synthesized via enclosed flame spray pyrolysis by tuning flame conditions and formation energies to guide phase formation. Flame parameters were tuned to suppress oxides and enable pure sulfide phase growth.

Cortical Entrainment to Continuous Speech: Functional Roles and Interpretations

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2014
Auditory cortical activity is entrained to the temporal envelope of speech, which corresponds to the syllabic rhythm of speech. Such entrained cortical activity can be measured from subjects naturally listening to sentences or spoken passages, and ...

The Role of Motor and Environmental Visual Rhythms in Structuring Auditory Cortical Excitability

open access: yesiScience, 2020
Summary: Previous studies indicate that motor sampling patterns modulate neuronal excitability in sensory brain regions by entraining brain rhythms, a process termed motor-initiated entrainment.

The sweet spot between predictability and surprise: musical groove in brain, body, and social interactions

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2022
Groove—defined as the pleasurable urge to move to a rhythm—depends on a fine-tuned interplay between predictability arising from repetitive rhythmic patterns, and surprise arising from rhythmic deviations, for example in the form of syncopation.

Plastic vasomotion entrainment

open access: yeseLife, 2023
Abstract The presence of global synchronization of vasomotion induced by oscillating visual stimuli was identified in the mouse brain. Endogenous autofluorescence was used and the vessel “shadow” was quantified to evaluate the magnitude of the frequency-locked vasomotion.
