A new inequality for the von Neumann entropy

open access: yes, 2004
Strong subadditivity of von Neumann entropy, proved in 1973 by Lieb and Ruskai, is a cornerstone of quantum coding theory. All other known inequalities for entropies of quantum systems may be derived from it.

Entropy-coded hybrid differential pulse-code modulation

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 1983
A hybrid differential pulse-code-modulation (DPCM) system is presented to demonstrate the application of fuzzy set theory in data compression. The system involves entropy coding, Laplacian quantiser and fuzzy enhancement operations as applied on the DPCM signal. Saving of about 0.5 bit is found to be obtained when a DPCM signal is quantised to 32-level,

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Entropy of Closure Operators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The entropy of a closure operator has been recently proposed for the study of network coding and secret sharing. In this paper, we study closure operators in relation to their entropy. We first introduce four different kinds of rank functions for a given

Coding By Quantum Entanglement Entropy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Nanotechnology in Medicine & Engineering, 2017
In our view, the Universe can be described as having two forms of energy: one related to attractive gravitational forces, which is negative, and the other related to mass according to Einstein’s formula E = mc2, which is positive. The generation of nonequilibrium structures (such as Benard vortices or chemical oscillations), where energy is conserved ...

Dualities Between Entropy Functions and Network Codes

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2008
This paper provides a new duality between entropy functions and network codes. Given a function $g\geq 0$ defined on all proper subsets of $N$ random variables, we provide a construction for a network multicast problem which is solvable if and only if $g$ is entropic.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

A New Perspective on Improving the Lossless Compression Efficiency for Initially Acquired Images

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
A new lossless compression scheme of compressing the initially-acquired continuous-intensity images with a lossy compression algorithm to obtain higher compression efficiency is proposed. Even if a lossy algorithm is employed, for decoded original images,

Information Theory based on Non-additive Information Content

open access: yes, 2001
We generalize the Shannon's information theory in a nonadditive way by focusing on the source coding theorem. The nonadditive information content we adopted is consistent with the concept of the form invariance structure of the nonextensive entropy. Some

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...
