Entropy Generation Rate Minimization for Methanol Synthesis via a CO2 Hydrogenation Reactor

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
The methanol synthesis via CO2 hydrogenation (MSCH) reaction is a useful CO2 utilization strategy, and this synthesis path has also been widely applied commercially for many years.

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Dynamic optimization of heat exchanger using entropy generation minimization

open access: yes, 2021
International audienceIn order to reduce fossil fuel consumption for heat and cold generation, different lowtemperature heat sources have been considered for heat pump operations such as sewagesystems, sea water, ground water and drinking water.

Entropy Generation Minimization Analysis of Solar Salt, Sodium, and Lead–Bismuth Eutectic as High Temperature Heat Transfer Fluids

open access: yes, 2020
The amount of entropy generation in heat transfer devices impacts their operation economy and should therefore be minimized during the design phase. Entropy generation also depends on the individual thermophysical properties of the heat transfer fluid ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Optimization of Peripheral Finned-Tube Evaporators Using Entropy Generation Minimization

open access: yes, 2012
The peripheral finned-tube (PFT) is a new geometry for enhanced air-side heat transfer under moisture condensate blockage (evaporators). It consists of individual hexagonal (peripheral) fin arrangements with radial fins whose bases are attached to the ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Entropy generation minimization for enhancing the fluid recovery and energy efficiency in petroleum reservoirs

open access: yes, 2021
Hydrocarbon reservoir fluids usually contain a significant amount of mechanical energy that depends on the distribution of temperature and pressure throughout the reservoir.
