Measurement of granular entropy

Physical Review E, 2009
Recently, Dean and Lefèvre [Phys. Rev. Lett. 90, 198301 (2003)] developed a method for testing the statistical mechanical theory of granular packings proposed by Edwards and co-workers [Physica A 157, 1080 (1989); Phys. Rev. E 58, 4758 (1998)]. The method relies on the prediction that the ratio of two overlapping volume histograms should be exponential

Relevant Entropy vs . Measurement Entropy

Europhysics Letters (EPL), 1986
We compare two different entropies which can be assigned to measurements of an observable A in a state ρ, and comment upon their physical meaning.

THE MINIMAL κ-ENTROPY MARTINGALE MEASURE [PDF]

open access: possibleInternational Journal of Theoretical and Applied Finance, 2012
We introduce the notion of κ-entropy (κ ∈ ℝ, |κ| ≤ 1), starting from Kaniadakis' (2001, 2002, 2005) one-parameter deformation of the ordinary exponential function. The κ-entropy is in duality with a new class of utility functions which are close to the exponential utility functions, for small values of wealth, and to the power law utility functions ...

GENERAL ENTROPY OF GENERAL MEASURES

International Journal of Uncertainty, Fuzziness and Knowledge-Based Systems, 2002
The concept of entropy is an important part of the theory of additive measures. In this paper, a definition of entropy is introduced for general (not necessarily additive) measures as the infinum of the Shannon entropies of "subordinate" additive measures. Several properties of the general entropy are discussed and proved.

Fuzzy Measures: Collectors of Entropies

2007
In the fuzzy setting we define a collector of entropies, which allows us to consider the reliability of observers. This leads to a system of functional equations. We are able to find the general solution of the system for collectors, which are compatible with a law of the kind "Inf" in [2]. Finally we give a class of solutions for a collector for which

NORMALIZED MEASURES OF ENTROPY

International Journal of General Systems, 1986
A number of “normalized” measures of entropy have been obtained to measure the “intrinsic” uncertainty of a probability distribution. Their graphs have been drawn and it has been shown that the normalized measures of a given probability distribution are much closer to one another than the corresponding absolute measures of entropy.

Spatial Entropy Measures

The article reviews, under a unified framework, the main approaches to spatial entropy measures. It also illustrates the recent proposal of a set of entropy measures for spatial data, which allows to split the data heterogeneity, usually assessed via Shannon's entropy, into two components: spatial mutual information, identifying the role of space, and ...

Entropy of Fuzzy Measure

2010
A definition for the entropy of fuzzy measures defined on set systems is proposed. The underlying set is not necessarily the whole power set, but satisfy a condition of regularity. This definition encompasses the classical definition of Shannon for probability measures, as well as the definition of Marichal et al.

Visual Perception Entropy Measure

SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal, 2019
This paper is about a theoretical framework on perceptual reproduction quality assessment. Visual perception is the main theme for two approaches on image metrics: visual performance and image quality. Visual performance looks at the perception of standard elementary images, such as gratings, by different observers or by a single observer in different ...
