International environmental agreements, uncertainty and learning: the case of stock dependent unit damage costs

open access: yes, 2002
In Ulph (2002) I analysed how the possibility of future resolution of uncertainty about damage costs affected the incentives and timing for countries to join a self-enforcing international environmental agreement (IEA).

Nondestructive Structural Damage Detection in Flexible Space Structures Using Vibration Characterization [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Spacecraft are susceptible to structural damage over their operating life from impact, environmental loads, and fatigue. Structural damage that is not detected and not corrected may potentially cause more damage and eventually catastrophic structural ...

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Environmental Pricing in Transport [PDF]

open access: yes
Transport activity is inextricably linked with environmental damage. Economists traditionally urge policy makers to adopt pricing solutions, in particular taxes, to reduce environmental damage rather than quantity restrictions or standards.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Ecological and Economic Indicators of Oil and Gas Companies Functioning

open access: yesVestnik MGIMO-Universiteta, 2016
This article analyzes the basic ecological-economic indicators of oil and gas companies, in particular the various volumes of oil, the number of spills per year of CO2 emissions, the costs of environmental protection.

Crime of ecocide in Ukraine – environmental consequences of Russian military aggression

open access: yesStudia Prawnicze KUL
Even though the definition of the crime of ecocide was proposed by the Independent Expert Panel in 2021 it has not been incorporated into any international agreement yet.

NKCC1: A key regulator of glioblastoma progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioblastoma (GBM) progression is driven by disrupted chloride cotransporter homeostasis. NKCC1 is highly expressed in stem‐like, astrocytic, and progenitor cells, correlating with earlier recurrence, while overall survival remains unaffected. NKCC1 serves as a prognostic marker and potential therapeutic target, linking chloride transporter imbalance ...

Environmental liability for environmental damage

open access: yes, 2014
This article looks at some complex problems posed by the responsibility for damages caused to the environment and crimes against the environment. In particular, we look at several responsibility modelson the West-East spectrum, and try to outline the benefits and deficiencies thereto, as well as attempt to explain the interrelation between ...

Environmental liability and the capital structure of firms [PDF]

open access: yes
A number of countries have recently introduced legislation which holds polluters liable for the costs of cleaning up environmental damage they have caused. While in principle this gives polluters appropriate incentives to reduce the risk of environmental
