Stochastic Simulation of Mudcrack Damage Formation in an Environmental Barrier Coating [PDF]
The FEAMAC/CARES program, which integrates finite element analysis (FEA) with the MAC/GMC (Micromechanics Analysis Code with Generalized Method of Cells) and the CARES/Life (Ceramics Analysis and Reliability Evaluation of Structures / Life Prediction ...

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

The Effects of Environmental Policy on the Performance of Environmental RIVs [PDF]
Much of the potential impact of environmental policy is though to come from the incentives it gives firms to develop and introduce new environmental products and processes.

Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

In normal (nontolerant) cells, CD14 is crucial for both LPS uptake and LPS signaling. In LPS‐tolerant cells, in which LPS‐induced TNF‐α and IFN‐β production is suppressed, there is a dramatic increase in surface CD14 expression. The overexpressed CD14 in LPS‐tolerant cells is responsible for the enhanced LPS uptake without inducing pro‐inflammatory ...

In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Environmentally Damaging Electricity Trade
Electricity trade across regions is often considered welfare enhancing. We show in this paper that this could be reconsidered if environmental externalities are taken into account. We consider two cases where trade is beneficial, before accounting for environmental damages: first, when two regions with the same technology display some demand ...
