Green and scalable synthesis of chiral aromatic alcohols through an efficient biocatalytic system

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, 2021
Summary Chiral aromatic alcohols have received much attention due to their widespread use in pharmaceutical industries. In the asymmetric synthesis processes, the excellent performance of alcohol dehydrogenase makes it a good choice for biocatalysts.

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Sound-Based Unsupervised Fault Diagnosis of Industrial Equipment Considering Environmental Noise

open access: yes
The influence of environmental noise is generally excluded during research on machine fault diagnosis using acoustic signals. This study proposes a fault diagnosis method using a variational autoencoder (VAE) and domain adaptation neural network (DANN ...

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

Behavioral patterns of environmental performance evaluation programs

open access: yes, 2016
During the past decades numerous environmental performance evaluation programs have been developed and implemented on different geographic scales. This paper develops a taxonomy of environmental management behavioral patterns in order to provide a ...

From concepts to comparisons: A resource for diagnosis and measurement in social-ecological systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
A central challenge facing the study the environmental governance is the lack of commonunderstanding of important concepts. Critical concepts such as social boundaries, property rights, and resource dependence are selected and measured inconsistently ...

Organic amendment additions to cadmium-contaminated soils for phytostabilization of three bioenergy crops

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
The effects of organic amendments on the phytoremediation of cadmium (Cd) in acacia (Acacia mangium), jatropha (Jatropha curcas), and cassava (Manihot esculenta) were investigated. The bone meal/bat manure and leonardite/bat manure amendments resulted in

Tumor B‐cell infiltration in platinum‐treated advanced muscle‐invasive urothelial carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Bladder tumors with higher pretreatment memory B‐cell infiltration were linked to longer survival after cisplatin chemotherapy, but not carboplatin. These tumors also showed more organized immune structures (tertiary lymphoid structures) and a shared pro‐inflammatory B‐cell‐rich community, suggesting that memory B cells may help identify patients most ...

Environmental pollutants and human diseases: diagnosis and treatment [PDF]

open access: yesWIT Transactions on Biomedicine and Health, 2005
Environmental factors play a central role in the processes of human development, health, and disease. Human exposure to hazardous agents in the air, water, soil, and food and to physical hazards in the environment is a major contributor to increased morbidity and mortality.

ZW4864‐mediated inhibition of the β‐catenin/BCL9/BCL9L complex reveals therapeutic potential in bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
BCL9 and BCL9L drive bladder cancer progression by enhancing β‐catenin signaling, promoting proliferation, migration, invasion, and organoid growth. Genetic depletion of BCL9(L) suppresses malignant phenotypes, while pharmacological disruption of the β‐catenin/BCL9(L) complex with ZW4864 inhibits canonical Wnt signaling and tumor‐associated cellular ...
