Environmental and ecological effects of ocean renewable energy development: a current synthesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Marine renewable energy promises to assist in the effort to reduce carbon emissions worldwide. As with any large-scale development in the marine environment, however, it comes with uncertainty about potential environmental impacts, most of which have not

Environmental taxes:Implementation and environmental effectiveness

open access: yes, 1996
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY1.Although the 5th Environmental Action Programme of the EU in 1992 recommended the greater use of economic instruments such as environmental taxes, there has been little progress in their use since then at the EU level. At Member State level, however, there has been a continuing increase in the use of environmental taxes over the last

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

A probe for NIR-II imaging and multimodal analysis of early Alzheimer’s disease by targeting CTGF

open access: yesNature Communications
To date, earlier diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is still challenging. Recent studies revealed the elevated expression of connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) in AD brain is an upstream regulator of amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaque, thus CTGF could be an

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

A Novel Method for Single-Station Lightning Distance Estimation Based on the Physical Time Reversal

open access: yesRemote Sensing
A single-station lightning location has the obvious advantages of low cost and convenience in lightning monitoring and warning. To address the critical challenge of distance estimation accuracy in this technology, we propose a novel physical time ...

Design Dual-Polarization Frequency Selective Rasorber Using Split Ring Resonators

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
A novel dual-polarization frequency selective rasorber with one transmission band and two absorbing bands is proposed in this paper. The structure is composed of a lossless frequency selective surface layer and a resistive layer. The resistive layer is a
