From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Restricted Daily Exposure of Environmental Enrichment: Bridging the Practical Gap from Animal Studies to Human Application [PDF]

open access: yes
Daily restricted environmental enrichment (REE) refers to limited, structured periods of enrichment aimed at improving both physical and cognitive well-being in animals and humans.

The impact of environmental enrichment on the outcome variability and scientific validity of laboratory animal studies. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
It has been widely accepted for some time that species-appropriate environmental enrichment is important for the welfare of research animals, but its impact on research data initially received little attention.

Goal-oriented behavioural and environmental enrichment in aquarium species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Environmental enrichment is a common tool used in zoo and aquarium settings to provide mental and physical stimulation to animals under human care. This paper aims to present a primary approach to goal-oriented environmental and behavioural enrichment ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Impact of different housing densities combined with Environmental enrichment on the production of Japanese quail

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Animal Sciences
This study evaluated the zootechnical performance, egg quality, and behavior of Japanese quails in the laying phase housed in cages of different densities and with or without environmental enrichment.

Environmental enrichment modulates cortico-cortical interactions in the mouse.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Environmental enrichment (EE) is an experimental protocol based on a complex sensorimotor stimulation that dramatically affects brain development. While it is widely believed that the effects of EE result from the unique combination of different sensory ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

REPRODUCTIVE EFFICIENCY AND BEHAVIOR OF PREGNANT SOWS HOUSED IN CAGES AND COLLECTIVE PENS WITH OR WITHOUT BEDDING [PDF]

open access: yesEngenharia Agrícola
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of wood shaving bedding on pregnant sows under two housing conditions. Sixty-four animals were distributed into four treatments, each treatment included 54 sows split into three replicates. A 2 × 2 factorial design

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.
