Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

DYNAMAP – Development of low cost sensors networks for real time noise mapping
The Environmental Noise Directive (END) requires that regular updating of noise maps is implemented every five years to check and report about the changes occurred during the reference period. The updating process is usually achieved using a standardized

The European Directive 2002/49/EC defines useful procedures in order to evaluate, by means of indexes, the acoustic pollution affecting urban areas. To apply those methods correctly, it is necessary to get a properly designed acoustic database. Usually the environmental information managed by the laboratories shows a different kind of problem. Nowadays

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Vibration of railway bridges in the audible frequency range
The noise level associated with a train travelling on a bridge is normally greater than that for a train travelling on plain track. It is sometimes the bridge noise that causes the highest levels of disturbance to people in the vicinity or triggers ...

Characterisation and subtraction of current flow noise in hydrophone recordings [PDF]
In the interior of the Ría de Arousa, on the northwest coast of Spain, a hydrophone is installed to provide information on environmental noise, which is very high due to the intense traffic in the area. The hydrophone, together with various oceanographic

Coarse‐grained (left) and atomistic (right) models of the shape memory polymer ESTANE ETE 75DT3 are shown schematically. The two representations bridge molecular detail and mesoscopic description. Both models capture shape memory behavior, linking segmental mobility and conformational relaxation of anisotropic chains to macroscopic recovery, and ...

The economics of airport noise: how to manage markets for noise licenses [PDF]
Noise-induced pollution constitutes a hot and topical societal problem for all major airports. This paper discusses various issues in the implementation of a market for noise licenses as a solution to solve the noise externality between the residents ...
