Quantifying the roles of climate, herbivory, topography, and vegetation on tree establishment in the treeline ecotone

open access: yesEcosphere
The transition zone between the upper forest boundary and the treeless alpine vegetation (i.e., the treeline ecotone) is expected to shift upward in elevation with global warming. Multiple factors in addition to climate are influencing tree establishment,

Real‐World Cost‐Effectiveness of a Standardized Education and Exercise Therapy Program for Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis Compared to Usual Care

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We estimated the real‐world cost‐effectiveness of a standardized education and exercise therapy program (GLA:D) compared to usual care (UC) for people managing hip and/or knee osteoarthritis (HKOA). Methods We used a prospective matched cohort design to recruit people (aged >45 years) diagnosed with HKOA who used GLA:D or UC (not on a ...

Performance Triggered Adaptive Model Reduction for Soil Moisture Estimation in Precision Irrigation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Accurate soil moisture information is essential for precise irrigation to enhance water use efficiency. Estimating soil moisture based on limited soil moisture sensors is especially critical for obtaining comprehensive soil moisture information when dealing with large‐scale agricultural fields.

Investigating the Cellular Effects of GALC Dosing in Enzyme Replacement Therapy for Krabbe Disease Supports the Role of Nanomedicine

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
A detailed workflow for recombinant GALC production and characterization is presented to support enzyme replacement therapy for Krabbe disease. In vitro assays demonstrate that physiological GALC doses restore enzymatic activity and autophagic flux without affecting cell viability, whereas higher doses impair autophagy and reduce viability.
