Dnmt2 in RNA methylation, RNA inheritance, and environmental responses in the mouse [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Dnmt2 is a highly conserved RNA methyltransferase that is responsible for cytosine-C5 methylation of C38 in the anticodon-loop of tRNAAspGUC, tRNAValAAC, and tRNAGlyGCC. This modification has been shown to contribute to tRNA integrity and function. Additionally, it was demonstrated that RNA-mediated inheritance in mice depends on the presence of Dnmt2.

Circulating microRNA signatures of cachexia and cancer in Canis familiaris as a comparative oncology model for human disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating microRNAs as biomarkers of cachexia and sex‐specific cancer in senior dogs. In 25 client‐owned dogs, four circulating miRNAs (miR‐15a, miR‐15b, miR‐16, miR‐140) were downregulated in cachexia, with miR‐16 the strongest individual biomarker (AUC = 0.899).

Potential roles of noncoding RNAs in environmental epigenetic transgenerational inheritance [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2014
"Epigenetic transgenerational inheritance" (ETI) has been defined as germline (sperm or egg) transmission of epigenetic information between generations in the absence of direct exposures or genetic manipulations. Among reported cases of ETI in mammals, the majority are induced by environmental factors, including environmental toxicants [e.g ...

Single‐cell DNA methylation profiling: Technologies, computation, and applications in precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single‐cell DNA methylation (scDNAme) profiling maps epimutational clonal evolution, revealing mechanisms of malignancy and therapeutic resistance across diverse cancer types. By providing a high‐resolution landscape of intratumoral heterogeneity, these technologies empower precise patient stratification, guide the development of enhanced ...

RNA silencing response in chloroplast-replicating viroid siRNA biogenesis in plants

open access: yesPhytopathology Research
RNA silencing represents a cellular regulatory and defence mechanism in eukaryotes across kingdoms. In plants, a combined functionality of DCL2 and DCL3 is crucial for their synergistic defence against whilst DCL4 is required for nucleus-replicating ...

Environmental perturbations lead to extensive directional shifts in RNA processing

open access: yesPLOS Genetics, 2017
Abstract Environmental perturbations have large effects on both organismal and cellular traits, including gene expression, but the extent to which the environment affects RNA processing remains largely uncharacterized. Recent studies have identified a large number of genetic variants associated with variation in RNA processing that also

Interferon beta drives therapy resistance in a patient‐derived model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Interferon type 1 (IFN‐1) production and signaling is associated with the acquisition of therapy resistance, following chronic DNA damage, via Interferon‐related DNA damage resistance signature (IRDS) gene expression. An alternative, DNA damage‐independent role of sustained IFN‐1 mediated resistance was identified and characterized by the emergence of ...

An Isothermal Deoxyribozyme Sensor for Rapid Detection of Enteroviral RNA

open access: yesBiosensors
Enteric viruses are a major cause of waterborne infections due to their high environmental stability and extremely low infectious dose. Current molecular diagnostic methods, while accurate, often depend on thermal cycling and centralized laboratory ...
