Antioxidant enzymatic activities after experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage in rats

open access: yes, 1993
Lipid peroxidation has been hypotesized as one of possible factors involved in the pathogenesis of neuronal damage and delayed vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Malate synthase enzymatic activities of worms exposed to glucose.

open access: yes, 2019
Enzymatic activities were determined in crude extracts from worms that were exposed from L1 to L4 larval stages to glucose 20, 40, 80 or 100 mM. Data is presented from 12 independent biological replicates. Error bars represent SEM (**P P < 0.001; one-way

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Enzymatic activities in cerebrospinal fluid in patients with neurological diseases

open access: yes, 1973
The purpose of this article is to assess the use of determination of seven enzymes - glutamic oxalacetic transaminase, lactic dehydrogenase, creatine phosphate kinase, β glucuronidase, phosphohexose isomerase, isocitric dehydrogenase and aldolase - in ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Enzymatic activities of wild-type LicA and mutants.

open access: yes, 2015
(A) Effect of magnesium or EDTA on LicA activity. (B) The relative enzymatic activities of the wild-type LicA and mutants. One-way ANOVA with a post hoc Dunnett test is used for the comparison of statistical significance. The P values of

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...
