BackgroundSpinocerebellar ataxia type 2 (SCA2) is an inherited and still incurable neurodegenerative disorder. Evidence suggests that pro-oxidant agents as well as factors involved in antioxidant cellular defenses are part of SCA2 physiopathology.AimTo ...

Enzymatic activity of mycorrhizal fungi. II
An attempt bas been made to evaluate the participation of mycorrhizal fungi in the process of degradation of some aromatic compounds. 24 strains of ectomycorrhizal fungi, l ectendomycorrhizal stram and 11 nonmycorrhizal strains which decomposed wood were

Strigolactone biosynthesis is evolutionarily conserved, regulated by phosphate starvation and contributes to resistance against phytopathogenic fungi in a moss, Physcomitrella patens [PDF]
In seed plants, strigolactones (SLs) regulate architecture and induce mycorrhizal symbiosis in response to environmental cues. SLs are formed by combined activity of the carotenoid cleavage dioxygenases (CCDs) 7 and 8 from 9-cis-β-carotene, leading to ...

Enzymatically Active Ultrathin Pepsin Membranes
AbstractEnzymatically active proteins enable efficient and specific cleavage reactions of peptide bonds. Covalent coupling of the enzymes permits immobilization, which in turn reduces autolysis‐induced deactivation. Ultrathin pepsin membranes were prepared by facile interfacial polycondensation of pepsin and trimesoyl chloride.

On the Enzymatic Activation of NADH [PDF]
Atomic (1 A) resolution x-ray structures of horse liver alcohol dehydrogenase in complex with NADH revealed the formation of an adduct in the active site between a metal-bound water and NADH. Furthermore, a pronounced distortion of the pyridine ring of NADH was observed.

GMPPB-congenital disorders of glycosylation associate with decreased enzymatic activity of GMPPB
The congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDG) are a family of metabolic diseases in which glycosylation of proteins or lipids is deficient. GDP-mannose pyrophosphorylase B (GMPPB) mutations lead to CDG, characterized by neurological and muscular ...
