Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2008Microwave irradiation can be used to regulate biocatalysis. Herein, the utilization of hyperthermophilic enzymes in a microwave reactor is reported. While these enzymes are inactive at low temperatures, they can be activated with microwave irradiation.

Enzymatic activity in the activated-sludge floc matrix
Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 1995The enzymatic activity of activated sludge was investigated with special emphasis on the localization of the enzymes in the sludge floc matrix. Activated sludge from an advanced activated-sludge treatment plant, performing biological N and P removal, was used. An enzymatic fingerprint was established using a panel of six different enzymes.

Biochemistry. Biokhimiia, 1999Chitinase and proteinase activities were found in aphroproteins excreted by larvae of the cicada Aphrophora costalis Mats; this accounts for their fungicidal effect. Aphroproteins did not show DNase or RNase activities and did not exhibit properties of proteinase inhibitors.

Non-enzymatic and enzymatic activation of mitomycin C: Identification of a unique cytosolic activity
International Journal of Cancer, 1996Mitomycin C (MMC), an alkylating anti-tumor agent, was activated by non-enzymatic and enzymatic mechanisms leading to DNA binding and adduct formation. However, it was enzymatically, not non-enzymatically, activated MMC which induced inter-strand DNA cross-linking, a major determinant of cell death.
