Natural Variation of NAR5 Determines Nitrogenase Activity and the Yield in Soybean

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identified NAR5, a gene encoding a subtilisin‐like protease, that regulates nitrogenase activity in soybean nodules. Overexpressing NAR5 delayed nodule senescence, enhancing nitrogenase activity, yield, and low‐nitrogen tolerance. The elite haplotype NAR5HapI‐1 linked to superior nitrogenase activity and greater seed weight has been ...

ROS-mediated membrane damage and antioxidant imbalance drive apple flesh browning during cold storage

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
IntroductionFlesh browning is a major postharvest disorder in apples during cold storage, yet its physiological basis remains unclear. This study examined reactive oxygen species (ROS) metabolism and antioxidant systems in flesh-browning (FB) and normal (

FASLG Derived from Fibroblasts in Hydroxyapatite‐Rich Microenvironment Induces Urothelial Anoikis to Trigger Randall's Plaque Exposure

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Randall's plaques (RP) serve as the nidus for calcium oxalate (CaOx) kidney stones. The current study reveals that hydroxyapatite (HAP) crystals activate the THY1–GSK3α/β–β‐catenin axis in renal interstitial fibroblasts (hRIFs), inducing FASLG secretion.

Carboranyl‐Curcuminoids for the Neutron Capture‐Based Treatment of Amyloid Aggregates in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The 10B‐enriched monocarbonyl analog of curcumin (BMAC) 10B‐9 enables site‐specific Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) on amyloid‐β (Aβ) fibrils. Neutron irradiation induces histidine oxidation and fibril destabilization, as revealed by 1H‐NMR and FESEM analyses.

The Super Anti-Browning Effect of High-Oxygen Pretreatment Combined with Cod Peptides on Fresh-Cut Potatoes During Storage

open access: yesFoods
Enzymatic browning poses a formidable obstacle to the commercial sustainability of fresh-cut potatoes. Although the synergistic effects of bio-inductive technologies with natural compounds in anti-browning strategies have been observed, their full ...

Inhibitory effect of enzymatic browning products on trypsin activity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The aim of this piece of work was to assay if the melanins synthesized from  Agaricus bisporus polyphenol oxidase and one of its main substrates (L-tyrosine) act as trypsininhibitors, and therefore may have a toxic effect on protein digestion.
