ENZYMES AND ANTI-ENZYMES OF INFLAMMATORY EXUDATES [PDF]
The serum of an inflammatory exudate has the power of inhibiting the action of proteolytic ferments contained in the leucocytes. This anti-enzymotic power is possessed by the blood serum from which it doubtless passes into the exudate. In the later stages of inflammation there is some diminution of this anti-enzymotic action.

Enzyme-Enzyme Interactions in Monolignol Biosynthesis [PDF]
The enzymes that comprise the monolignol biosynthetic pathway have been studied intensively for more than half a century. A major interest has been the role of pathway in the biosynthesis of lignin and the role of lignin in the formation of wood. The pathway has been typically conceived as linear steps that convert phenylalanine into three major ...

A Cre‐dependent lentiviral vector for neuron subtype‐specific expression of large proteins
We designed a versatile and modular lentivector comprising a Cre‐dependent switch and self‐cleaving 2A peptide and tested it for co‐expression of GFP and a 2.8 kb gene of interest (GOI) in mouse cortical parvalbumin (PV+) interneurons and midbrain dopamine (TH+) neurons.

The IQ‐compete assay for measuring mitochondrial protein import efficiencies in living yeast cells
The efficiency of mitochondrial protein import depends on the properties of the newly synthesized precursor proteins. The Import and de‐Quenching Competition (IQ‐compete) assay is a novel method to monitor the import efficiency of different proteins by fluorescence in living yeast cells.

Chitinase and chitin-oligosaccaride can be used in multiple field, so it is important to develop a high-yield chitinase producing strain. Here, a recombinant Pichia pastoris with 4 copies of ChiA gene from Bacillus licheniformis and co-expression of ...

Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) lacks iodide uptake ability due to MAPK activation increasing the expression of the histone methyltransferase EZH2, which represses thyroid differentiation genes (TDGs) such as the sodium iodide symporter (NIS). Dual inhibition of MAPK (U0126) and EZH2 (EPZ6438/Tazemetostat) reverses this mechanism, thus restoring TDG ...

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
