Recombinant Expression and Immobilization of Pantoea dispersa DJL-B Alcohol Dehydrogenase

open access: yesShipin gongye ke-ji
To enhance the expression level of recombinant alcohol dehydrogenase in E. coli BL21 (DE3), this study investigated the effects of induction temperature, induction time, and IPTG concentration on enzyme expression through one-way experiments ...

Physiological and biochemical characterization of mango tree with paclobutrazol application via irrigation

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Tropical, 2016
Paclobutrazol application in mango tree floral induction is followed by changes in the hormonal balance and carbohydrates production. This study aimed at evaluating the physiological and biochemical variables of mango tree (Palmer cultivar) by applying ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Induction effect of chitosan on suppression of tomato early blight and its physiological mechanism

open access: yes浙江大学学报. 农业与生命科学版, 2003
Resistance to early blight of the tomato plants was induced by chitosan (1 mg/mL) at the fourth-leaf stage of seedlings. Chitosan treatment of tomato leaves before inoculation reduced the rates of diseased leaf and disease index.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation improves the high incidence of neutralizing allo-antibodies observed in Hurler’s syndrome after pharmacological enzyme replacement therapy

open access: yesHaematologica, 2012
Background Mucopolysaccharidosis type I is caused by deficiency of α-L-iduronidase. Currently available treatment options include an allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant and enzyme replacement therapy.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
