Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

EVALUATION OF THE INDUCTION OF LIPOLYTIC ENZYMES FROM A Pseudomona aeruginosa ISOLATED FROM AFRICAN PALM FRUIT (Elaeis guineensis) EVALUACIÓN DE LA INDUCCIÓN DE ENZIMAS LIPOLÍTICAS A PARTIR DE UNA Pseudomona aeruginosa AISLADA DEL FRUTO DE PALMA AFRICANA (Elaeis guineensis)

open access: yesVitae, 2012
Background: Extracellular lipases are found in the culture broth when the fermentation is at the end of the exponential phase. Lipases can be induced easily since they are produced by the presence of oily sources or other materials as surfactants, fatty ...

Regulation of Sialidase Biosynthesis by Control Mechanism Induction in Antarctic Strain Penicillium griseofulvum P29

open access: yesSci
In recent years, sialidases (neuraminidases) derived from non-clinical sources have attracted considerable interest due to their potential applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Production and Expression Optimization of Heterologous Serratiopeptidase

open access: yesIranian Journal of Public Health, 2020
Background: Serratiopeptidase is a bacterial metalloprotease, which is useful for the treatment of pain and inflammation. It breaks down fibrin, thins the fluids formed during inflammation and acts as an anti-biofilm agent.
