A carboxypeptidase processing enzyme for enkephalin precursors

Nature, 1982
Recent studies1,2 have shown that adrenal medullary chromaffin granules contain relatively large amounts of Met- and Leuenkephalin and several large enkephalin-containing peptides ranging in molecular weight (Mr) from 3,200 to 50,000. The large, biologically inactive enkephalin-containing molecules can be broken down in vitro to give active enkephalins

Intracellular organization of DNA precursor biosynthetic enzymes

Trends in Biochemical Sciences, 1988
Abstract Deoxyribonucleoside triphosphates (dNTPs) are synthesized by a multienzyme complex in T4 phage-infected bacteria (and probably in other cells). The synthesis of dNTPs is closely coordinated with DNA replication, but the biochemical nature of that coordination has yet to be defined.

A molluscan peptide α‐amidating enzyme precursor that generates five distinct enzymes

The FASEB Journal, 1999
Mechanisms underlying the specificity and efficiency of enzymes, which modify peptide messengers, especially with the variable requirements of synthesis in the neuronal secretory pathway, are poorly understood. Here, we examine the process of peptide α‐amidation in individually identifiable Lymnaea

Enzyme‐Triggered and Self‐Cleaving Fragrant Alcohol Precursors

Chemistry & Biodiversity, 2008
AbstractThe high volatility and water solubility of many natural perfumery alcohols leads to their rapid loss in fabric‐care and personal‐care applications. A dramatically enhanced substantivity is achieved by the use of fragrance precursors as controlled‐release systems.

Processing of enkephalin precursors by chromaffin granule enzymes

Life Sciences, 1982
Subcellular localization studies indicate that the enzyme activities which cleave enkephalins from larger polypeptides are located in both membranous and soluble components of the chromaffin granules and not in the lysosomes. Cleavage of endogenous precursors produced methionine enkephalin [Met-E], leucine enkephalin [Leu-E], and Met-E-Arg6.

Enzymic routes to dihydroxyacetone phosphate or immediate precursors

Journal of Molecular Catalysis B: Enzymatic, 2002
Dihydroxyacetone phosphate (DHAP) is an important substrate for enzymic syntheses of saccharides by means of dihydroxyacetone phosphate aldolases. A convenient precursor of DHAP is L-glycerol-3-phosphate (L-G3P), the enzymic synthesis of which may be achieved by phosphate transfer owing to an ATP-regenerating system.

Ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency with a truncated enzyme precursor

Journal of Inherited Metabolic Disease, 1987
Ornithine transcarbamylase (OTC, EC 2.1.3.3), located in the mitochondriat matrix, is synthesized on membrane-free polysomes in the form of a larger precursor and is then proteolytically processed to the mature form. OTC deficiency, which is a disease with X-linked dominant inheritance, is caused by various kinds of mutation (Briand et al., 1982).

Opioid and tachykinin peptides, and their precursors and precursor-processing enzymes, in human cerebrospinal fluid

Journal of Chromatography A, 1990
Opioid and tachykinin neuropeptides, which were derived from two biological sources (intact, and released from their corresponding precursors by the action of human cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) neuropeptidases), were characterized in human CSF by using a combination of post-high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) detection techniques. Peptides were

Photoactive pigment—enzyme complexes of chlorophyll precursor in plant leaves

Biochemistry (Moscow), 2007
This review summarizes contemporary data on structure and function of photoactive pigment--enzyme complexes of the chlorophyll precursor that undergoes photochemical transformation to chlorophyllide. The properties and functions of the complex and its principal components are considered including the pigment (protochlorophyllide), the hydrogen donor ...

Enzyme Organization in DNA Precursor Biosynthesis

1993
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the process by which DNA precursors are synthesized and delivered to replication sites and consider the possibility of physical or functional linkage between enzymes of deoxyribonucleoside 5‘-triphosphate (dNTP)’ synthesis and those directly involved in the replication.
