Printed, Flexible Lactate Sensors: Design Considerations Before Performing On-Body Measurements. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This work reports the process of sensor development, optimization, and characterization before the transition to on-body measurements can be made. Sensors using lactate oxidase as a sensing mechanism and tetrathiafulvalene as a mediator were optimized ...

DNA‐Templated 2D Heterostructures as Phototriggered Dynamic Nanohybrids: From Releasing Molecular Loads to Controlling Enzyme Biocatalytic Function

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DNA strands are employed both as dynamic linkers and nanoscale templates for the integration of Ag2S nanoparticles on MoS2, which in turn imparted photothermal responsiveness; this feature permits the selective cargo (fluorophore, quantum dots or an enzyme) release from the MoS2 surface in response to local heat induced by light irradiation.

Enhancing and Stabilizing Hydrogen Catalysis Through [NiFe]‐Hydrogenase Immobilization Within Macroporous Covalent Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
[NiFe]‐hydrogenases efficiently catalyze hydrogen conversion, but their instability limits biotechnological applications. Here it is shown that encapsulating hydrogenase into hierarchical COFs with macro‐ and micropores and functionalized with sulfonic or carboxylic acid groups improves enzyme stability and electron transfer to electrodes.

Enhancement of biodegradation potential of catechol 1,2-dioxygenase through its immobilization in calcium alginate gel

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Biotechnology, 2014
Background: In biodegradation processes free enzymes often undergo deactivation. Thus, it is very important to obtain highly stable enzymes by different methods.

Electrochemically Driven Dissipative Growth of Affinity Hydrogels for Bioresponsive Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Voltage pulses drive the growth and reinforcement of hydrogel films under dissipative conditions. This biocompatible strategy enables efficient integration of affinity ligands into the hydrogel matrix, enhancing the selective capture of growth factors and allowing precise temporal control over their release, making them well‐suited as adaptive ...

Nano‐ and Micro‐Sized Solid Materials Used as Antiviral Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Due to the rise of viral infections in humans and possible viral outbreaks, the use of nano‐ or micro‐sized materials as antiviral agents is rapidly increasing. This review explores their antiviral properties against RNA and DNA viruses, either as a prevention or a treatment tool, by delving into their mechanisms of action and how to properly assess ...
