MMP-12 Inhibitors Inverse Eosinophilic Inflammation-Mediated Bronchial Fibrosis in Murine Models of Pulmonary Airway Obstruction

open access: yesCells
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a major group of proteases known to regulate the turnover of the extracellular matrix (ECM). We observed that induced MMP-12 promotes eosinophilic inflammation-related epithelial cell mesenchymal transition (EMT ...

Machine Learning‐Enabled Polymer Discovery for Enhanced Pulmonary siRNA Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study provides an efficient approach to train a machine learning model by merging heterogeneous literature data to predict suitable polymers for siRNA delivery. Without the need for extensive laboratory synthesis, the machine learning enabled a virtual screening and successfully predicted a polymer that is validated for effective gene silencing in

Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide Receptor, CRTH2, Antagonist Treatment Improves Eosinophil and Mast Cell-Mediated Esophageal Remodeling and Motility Dysfunction in Eosinophilic Esophagitis

open access: yesCells
Background and Aims: Ultrasonography has shown that eosinophils accumulate in each segment of the esophageal mucosa in human EoE, ultimately promoting esophageal motility dysfunction; however, no mechanistic evidence explains how or why this accumulation

Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...

Idiopathic eosinophilic pleurisy: A practical diagnostic approach

open access: yesRespiratory Medicine Case Reports, 2021
A 37-year-old man with fever, cough, and dyspnea with no medical history developed an eosinophilic pleural effusion and blood eosinophilia. No evidence of malignancy or pathogens was detected in the pleural effusion, and the pleural specimen obtained by ...

Programmed Aggregation of Lipidated Nitrobenzoselenadiazole as a Photo‐Activatable Pyroptosis Inducer

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents alkylated nitrobenzoselenadiazole (NBSD) photosensitizers that self‐assemble into programmable aggregates, enabling photo‐triggered pyroptosis and enhanced ROS generation. The lead compound, NBSD‐NOc, exhibits superior photodynamic activity, high cellular uptake, and implantable gel compatibility with pH‐responsive release.
