Ageing of EPDM—I: Photo and thermal stability of EPDM hydroperoxides
Polymer Degradation and Stability, 1996Abstract EPDM hydroperoxides photogenerated by singlet oxygen were decomposed both by UV (λ ≥ 300 nm) and thermal (85 °C) irradiation under vacuum. The peroxy radical formation was followed by performing photolysis at −60 °C directly in the cavity of an ESR spectrometer.

Crystallinity in EPDM terpolymers
British Polymer Journal, 1979AbstractThe crystallinity of a series of ‘medium‐high’ green strength EPDM terpolymers has been examined by X‐ray diffraction and thermal analysis. It has been found that the crystallinity of such materials can vary from 0.20% as measured by thermal analysis, and depends on the E:P ratio in the polymer.

Journal of Polymer Science: Polymer Chemistry Edition, 1978AbstractRandom copolymers of ethylene, propylene, and 1,4‐hexadiene (EPDM) were carboxylated by reaction with thioglycolic acid or with maleic anhydride. Treatment of these polymers in tetrahydrofuran solution with tetrabutylammonium hydroxide generated carboxylate anions, which initiated the graft polymerization of pivalolactone.

EPDM/modified halloysite nanocomposites

The EPDM/HNT nanocomposites were prepared by mixing 0, 5, 10 and 30 parts per hundred rubber (phr) of HNTs with EPDM on a two-roll mill.

The Compatibilization of EPDM/SBR Blends by EPDM-Graft-Styrene Copolymer
Polymer-Plastics Technology and Engineering, 2005Ethylene propylene diene rubber (EPDM) and styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) blends were compatibilized by a graft copolymer EPDM-graft-styrene. This compatibilizer was prepared by gamma radiation induced grafting of EPDM with styrene monomer. The compatibilized blends were evaluated by scanning electron microscope and dielectric properties.

"D" designates the nonconjugated diene that provides a site of unsaturation for sulfur vulcanization, and "M" refers to the polymethylene saturated backbone of the polymer, i.e., CHr(CH2 )n-CH2 (Fig. 1)

This reclaim was blended with increasing amounts of a virgin EPDM roof-sheeting masterbatch and cured at temperatures allowing for a reversion-free vulcanization.
