MARTRE family proteins negatively regulate CCR4-NOT activity to protect poly(A) tail length and promote translation of maternal mRNA

open access: yesNature Communications
The mammalian early embryo development requires translation of maternal mRNA inherited from the oocyte. While poly(A) tail length influences mRNA translation efficiency during the oocyte-to-embryo transition (OET), molecular mechanisms regulating ...

ZMIZ2 promotes the development of triple-receptor negative breast cancer

open access: yesCancer Cell International, 2022
Background Triple-receptor negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive breast tumor subtype that generally has a poor prognosis. This study aimed to investigate the role and regulatory mechanisms of Zinc finger MIZ-type containing 2 (ZMIZ2) in ...

The microbiome in human skin aging

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐related skin changes encompass the well‐known visible phenotypic alterations, together with microbiome dysbiosis and a series of molecular aging hallmarks. These hallmarks characterize not only a fully stablished aged phenotype but also the skin aging process itself.

ssG4-seq for global profiling of strand-specific G-quadruplex structures in mammalian genomes

open access: yesNature Communications
DNA G-quadruplexes (G4s), formed by guanine-rich sequences in mammalian genomes, are non-canonical structures implicated in gene regulation. However, their strand-specific genomic distribution and mechanistic roles in transcription remain poorly ...

Control of directionality of chromatin folding for the inter- and intra-domain contacts at the Tfap2c–Bmp7 locus

open access: yesEpigenetics & Chromatin, 2018
Background Contact domains of chromatin serve as a fundamental unit to regulate action of enhancers for target genes. Looping between a pair of CCCTC-binding factor (CTCF)-binding sites in convergent orientations underlies the formation of contact ...

Enhanced chromatin accessibility contributes to X chromosome dosage compensation in mammals

open access: yesGenome Biology, 2021
Background Precise gene dosage of the X chromosomes is critical for normal development and cellular function. In mice, XX female somatic cells show transcriptional X chromosome upregulation of their single active X chromosome, while the other X ...

Environmental Epigenetics [PDF]

open access: yesEnvironmental Epigenetics, 2015
With over 350 journals, Oxford University Press is one of the largest publishers of scientific journals. In considering their portfolio recently, they realized they had no specific journals in the rapidly growing area of epigenetics. When they approached me about helping to establish a journal in this area, I considered what other journals had been ...

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Evolution and conservation of polycomb repressive complex 1 core components and putative associated factors in the green lineage

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2019
Background Polycomb group (PcG) proteins play important roles in animal and plant development and stress response. Polycomb repressive complex 1 (PRC1) and PRC2 are the key epigenetic regulators of gene expression, and are involved in almost all ...
