Strusture, biomass and production of the biotic component of the ecosystem of an growing eutrophic reservoir

open access: yesBiosystems Diversity, 2018
Using our own data and data from the literature, we assessed the total biomass of the biotic component of the ecosystem of the Ivankovo Reservoir (Upper Volga, Russia), a eutrophic reservoir which is becoming overgrown with macrophytes.

Succession of Periphyton and Phytoplankton Assemblages in Years with Varying Amounts of Precipitation in a Shallow Urban Lake (Lake Jeziorak Mały, Poland)

open access: yesEkológia (Bratislava), 2014
This study of periphyton assemblages (periphyton in separator pipes, epilithon and epiphyton) and phytoplankton was carried out in Lake Jeziorak Maly in 1997-2003 and 2005.

Macrophyte‐specific effects on epiphyton quality and quantity and resulting effects on grazing macroinvertebrates [PDF]

open access: yesFreshwater Biology, 2019
Abstract Aquatic macrophytes can have a significant impact on their associated community of epiphytic algae and bacteria through the provisioning of structural habitat complexity through different growth forms, the exudation of nutrients and the release of allelochemicals.

Technoecosystem of the cooling pond of the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant: group dynamics and transformation

open access: yesТрансформация экосистем, 2020
The results of long-term complex hydrobiological studies of the cooling pond of the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant (SU NPP) are presented. The abundance of zoo- and phytoplankton increased until 1984–1985, and then in the summer of 1986, against a ...

The morphology of the genus Epiphyton BORNEMANN

open access: yesGeologia Croatica, 2008
The discovery of exceptionally preserved specimens of the widespread Cambrian calcareous alga Epiphyton BORNEMANN enabled description of the primary structural elements, including cellular structure, and possible sporangia, plasmodesmes, nematecies, and attachment to the substrate.

Biomass, composition and size structure of invertebrate communities associated to different types of aquatic vegetation during summer in Lago di Candia (Italy)

open access: yesJournal of Limnology, 2004
We compared the biomass, taxonomic composition, and size distribution of invertebrates associated to emergent (Schoenoplectus lacustris), submerged (Myriophyllum spicatum), and floating leaved (Trapa natans) vegetation at two depths (surface and water ...

Diatom species composition and indices for determining the ecological status of coastal Mediterranean Spanish lakes

open access: yesAnales del Jardín Botánico de Madrid, 2013
Diatom indices have been used and tested mainly for assessing the ecological status of rivers and deep lakes, but there are scarce studies that determine their effectiveness in shallow lakes and in coastal Mediterranean lakes.

Epiphyton phenology determines the persistence of submerged macrophytes: Exemplified in temperate shallow lakes

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography
AbstractSubmerged macrophytes are key components in many freshwater and marine ecosystems, contributing to ecosystem functions and services. In temperate shallow lakes, spring epiphyton shading can be decisive for submerged macrophyte development, potentially leading to macrophyte collapse and a shift to undesired, turbid conditions.
