Epithermal Neutron Capture in Uranium-238
Nuclear Science and Engineering, 1977Designers of thermal-neutron reactors have always had to adjust microscopic nuclear cross sections to predict neutron multiplication in slightly enriched uranium lattices.

Quantitative epithermal neutron tomography with compact pulsed neutron source
2009 IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium Conference Record (NSS/MIC), 2009Neutron resonance absorption spectroscopy (N-RAS) with a pulsed neutron source can distinguish the dynamics of individual nuclides which have neutron resonance peaks on epithermal neutron region. Because some of the resonance absorption cross sections have very large values, N-RAS could match the small neutron pulse source by its high sensitivity.

Bulk hydrogen analysis using epithermal neutrons
Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry, 2005A new method based on the epithermal neutron activation has been developed for bulk hydrogen analysis. The sensitivity of the activation method for typical sample dimensions is higher by a factor of ~100 than the neutron reflection technique. Analytical expressions are given for the description of the measured flux density of thermalized neutrons as a ...

Accelerator based epithermal neutron source
Physics of Particles and Nuclei, 2015We review the current status of the development of accelerator sources of epithermal neutrons for boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT), a promising method of malignant tumor treatment. Particular attention is given to the source of epithermal neutrons on the basis of a new type of charged particle accelerator: tandem accelerator with vacuum insulation ...

The Sidewall Epithermal Neutron Porosity Log
Journal of Petroleum Technology, 1966Abstract A sidewall epithermal neutron tool has been developed to substantially reduce environmental effects that have previously complicated neutron log interpretation. Designed for operation in uncased wells, the device provides increased accuracy in both liquid-filled and empty holes.

Toxicity to rabbit retina of “epithermal” neutron beam
International Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Biology, 1974Abstract A comparison was made between the 24-hr effects of fully thermalized and partially thermalized atomic pile radiation on four metabolic indicators in rabbit retina. The purpose was to estimate the retinal toxic effect of each quality of radiation relative to the thermal neutron fluence available in the posterior ocular segment for neutron- 10

Enhanced plastic neutron shielding for thermal and epithermal neutrons
Journal of Instrumentation, 2008We describe a compound made of paraffin and boron carbide (boraffin) deviced to enhance epithermal neutron shielding. The compound is easily prepared and is specially suited to be adapted to particular surfaces. Transmission experiments show a favourable comparison with a commercial rubber-boron carbide compound in the epithermal range.

Designing accelerator‐based epithermal neutron beams for boron neutron capture therapy
Medical Physics, 1998Thereaction has been investigated as an accelerator‐driven neutron source for proton energies between 2.1 and 2.6 MeV. Epithermal neutron beams shaped by three moderator materials, andhave been analyzed and their usefulness for boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) treatments evaluated.

Californium-Based Epithermal Neutron Beams for Neutron Capture Therapy
1993The requirement of a safe and effective epithermal neutron beam for boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) has led to the investigation of a variety of different types of neutron sources. A small number of existing nuclear reactors have already developed epithermal beams that are predicted to provide safe and rapid neutron capture therapy1,2. However, in

Activation analysis of human diet samples with epithermal neutrons
Biological Trace Element Research, 1990Activation of diet samples by epithermal reactor neutrons is a very sensitive method for the determination of iodine. The method was developed and optimized for its determination. However, it turned out that with the same measurement valid results were also obtained for Br, Cl, K, Na, and P.
